More likely, they just use RFID tags on the population. (Maybe they'll use surplus ones? "Halt! You are, *beep*, Mr. Nike Hightop?")

Back in the day? I'm wire-wrapping a V20 (8088+) from junkbox parts. It's knitting for geeks, and I've always wanted to build a system up from the ground. Not that I haven't before, but this will be the first with hard drives and TCP/IP. It makes a nice break from programming way up on top of a huge pile of drivers, libraries, OS, endless junk that I don't know what it's doing and can't control.

I might use the Ethernet module that they used. It seems a clean little unit.

So? Swap the tags. With "improved inventory controls", no one is going question that your surplus MRE looks rather large and tank-like.

They're surprised that Microsoft is waffling on a platform? 10 years ago Pen Windows was the latest greatest coming thing for tablets and was going to be real big any moment now. Microsoft's attention span didn't last very long when the market didn't happen. Microsoft waffled on PDAs too until that market picked up.

As for the price of licencing Pen, er, Tablet Windows, perhaps they should look around for alternatives? (Say, what ever happen to GRiD anyway?)

Sounds like sour grapes: "Wah, Microsoft isn't pushing our market enough! And they put a gun to our heads to make us use Windows!" Sell enough computers for Microsoft to care guys.
