What scares me is that they're probably outsourcing to UIC (the only real school in Chicago other than UofC)... which is called the "University of Indians and Chinese" by students there.
- added exploit:// protocol handler - added local, fixed length arrays to functions that handle input from the network - removed support for stackguard and NX bit
Use fewer junk characters! Ok! How about this random sentence?
> Illegal? You mean the cops will come and take you away to jail for having an access point, even if you're not using it? How about if you were outside the library? I heard that's a Federal Law.
What a waste of time spent writing that comment. Illegal as in prohibited by the AUP that you sign.
When you get caught, I call it getting AUP'd. Ahaha.
Bullshit. Many people still don't know what button to press. "I clicked on it but it didn't open!!!11!!!"
I like the one button mouse on my Powerbook. Instead of right-clicking you click-and-hold. It's just different from PCs, not less functional. As for scrolling, I keep my hands on the keyboard, so Fn-Down or just Down is no problem for me.
I do like 15 button mice, too, mind you. I'm just saying I'm a power user and the 1 button doesn't bother me. I like Apple's thinking on this issue.
(And I like how I can plug in a $10 mouse and use 6 buttons if I like.)
My dorm is even better. I work for the computer center and know that it's illegal to have access points, but I felt like going war walking last night. One building, two floors, 17 access points. All named belkin54g, linksys, wireless, or default. Except for two (unencrypted) networks called "Pablo's Private Network" and "don't use".
If you don't want me to use it try some WEP at least. I am typing this on a channel-6 "linksys", actually. Now the next time I need illegal movies I'll just use this AP; it's not my quota that we'd be going over:)
And hey a bandwidth suspension takes effect after 1 day and lasts a week. So with 17 access points I have unlimited internet! Yay!
It's not any more difficult to crack, but there's just no market. If you could write a virus for x86/XP or a PDP-11, which would you pick?
It's the same with writing cracks. They take time, and there's no point of wasting your time on a shitty format like WMA (for now).
Trust me, every DRM scheme is vulnerable to bening cracked. Find the key; there are at least two copies (one on your player, one for WMP/whatever.)
If that doesn't work, just load a driver into the kernel and fuck around with the kernel memory. Eventually you'll find the buffer of decoded data waiting to be written to the sound card.
The way computers work prohibits _any DRM method_ from ever working.
Well it's "good" DRM. You can burn the song to CD. You can play it on 3 computers. You can play it on an infinite number of iPods. That's the good end of DRM if you ask me.
An besdies, hymn will make those songs DRM free (without losing ANY quality). Good deal, eh.
(As an aside, I bought some music. My friend wanted it too, so I just stripped the DRM off and mailed the files to him [after removing the unique ID;)] That's good DRM, lol.)
The hard drive seems to be the most expensive part of a computer these days. (unless you have 1024M of ECC RAM... that will also take a piece of your wallet...)
I like loud music because I like the vibration from the subwoofer. In fact, when I listen to loud music I plug my ears.
Actually, due to years of ignoring the fact that you need to plug your ears when playing the piccolo, I have rather poor hearing in my left ear. It's *really annoying* when I set up a new stereo system because the sound is perpetually unbalanced for me. Just thinking about it irritates me. (My brain can compensate, so when I use headphones I don't play with the balance. But if I think about it, I can tell that my left ear isn't doing it's job. *sigh*)
Good work. Funny funny, you made that account just so you could reply and get karma and then troll for anti-slash.org. Great work. You are a true genius.
Have you ever heard of qmail? It's a big program and is security-hole free. It _can_ be done. It just takes someone really smart like djb (who is my MCS494 prof, incidentally).
A CSV file, a simple perl script, and LaTeX would do the invoice well, too.
I use LaTeX for everything, because I switched to linux long before there was AbiWord, KWord, or OOo. And my papers (and resume/CV/etc.) stand out because they are so nicely formatted.
Learning LaTeX is worth however much time you spend learning it. Try it, you'll like it.
(LyX is decent, too, but I like raw LaTeX in emacs myself).
When it comes to not being a piece of shit and having a license that protects the hard work of the contributors, Linux wins hands down.
Oh, and BSD-style utils (cp, dd, df, tar, etc.) SUCK. GNU utils are really really good.

I don't really know what to say. This is amusing.
I wonder if Bluestem is affected. It uses Kerberos as the backend.
It is internal to the UofI, so maybe nobody has really looked for vulnerabilities.
Those instructions get issued a lot and are called "HLT". It powers down the CPU until the next interrupt.
Changelog v.10.0.1 (9/3/2004)
- added exploit:// protocol handler
- added local, fixed length arrays to functions that handle
input from the network
- removed support for stackguard and NX bit

iTunes is skinned? Sorry, that's what all mac apps look like (try Safari or iCal or iSync...).
Just because it doesn't look like shit doesn't mean it's "skinned". Winamp is skinned. iTunes is a mac app ported to Windows.

Do you always shit yourself before going to sleep at the keyboard
Yeah same here. I think this is a PICNIC problem: Problem In Chair, Not In Computer.
Yeah but you can press the buttons by resting your hand on it... causing spurious clicks. That is not a useful feature.
i would have written "modmeup shite kudasai" or maybe "tanomu yo... modmeup!"
Oh no, the Internet doesn't work for people with broken browsers. I think I am going to cry.
Oh wait! I'm not! FUCK IE.
You can easily build a system that will boot this thing for under $160.
1x nForce2 mobo = $30
1x Athlon = $50
1x case with cheap PSU = $50
1x 256M RAM = $30

It looks like shit if you ask me. I don't think I've ever seen a really pretty mouse, though.
:)
Maybe Apple's bluetooth mouse is museum quality (no cord), but seriously... this looks ugly, and worse... useless.
Then again I don't really like anything from M$, although I am using an M$ mouse right now

Well those devices aren't as small nor are they bus powered. But yes, they would certainly be acceptable.
