What a load of pretentious drivel. "Give me efficient computing or give me death." Like anyone round here gives a shit about you.
What has the platform got to do with what tools you use? These task-oriented, intelligently designed powerful tools that you talk of, are there vast numbers of them available on Linux but not on Windows? I don't think so.
Death seems the best option!

They should put the user stuff (like bookmarks) in App Data but the cache has to go in Local Settings. No argument.
Well, I think the parent was referring to AVG free edition. I do find it hard to believe that AVG beats McAfee or Norton though. Do you still have that Betamax video recorder?
AVG's all very well but it doesn't do trojans as my brother found out recently (I was the one who helped him get his system back). I'm afraid for AV I think you need to pay the commercials.
Google Scholar found my papers and those of my wife but Highwire Press failed to do so and the others cost money.
Given that published academic research is mostly paid for by public money a free service like Google's is long overdue.
I personally think that before too long academics will rebel against the tyranny of journal publishers and start their own peer reviewed online journal publication systems.
*nix has a path too - it's just that sensible programs install themselves into bin directories that are on the path. Sensible python installers will add the python bin directory to the path. Try the active state one for example.
Actually it's true that we need a slicker way of setting the path on Windows. It wrote my own little program to do it (and also to set environment variables like INCLUDE and LIB). So I just run a command called edenv (installed on the path!) and get a simple form with a memo with a line for each dir in the path.
So are you suggesting that updating templates in DreamWeaver is somehow broken? Have you done this and had it fail to update correctly all pages based on that template?
This is like saying Thunderbird is a good alternative to Outlook/Exchange, or Evolution. Nvu is perhaps a good alternative to FrontPage Express.
How about another analogy? Comparing Nvu and DreamWeaver is like comparing Word and Wordpad.
Nvu is great for what it is but I can't see many DreamWeaver users giving it the time of day. Try building a big site without DreamWeaver templates? Ha Ha Ha.
Actually, Firefox doesn't get patched. Oh no, you get to perform a full reinstall. Try keeping your settings alive through that process. As others have said, it's in the admin side of things the FF is lacking. Better support for corporate installation, patching, group policy, rolling up and configuring extensions are all areas that would help FF take the next step into the corporate world.
But the worry is that there are simply not enough developers to do this. Is that because of a lack of quality volunteers or is it down to the project's leaders not wanting to let others in? None of the above seems to be on the FF 2 roadmap...
Firefox is great for the home user but the lack of good support for patching and scripting installation / configuration of the core packages and extensions makes it a non-starter in the corporate world.
Yeah, you are quite right. Because of my slashdot preferences I don't see the AC posts. Which is why it didn't make sense and why I thought I'd share my knowledge with the world! Clearly I need to go more slowly............:-)
Er, that was my point and the ultimate parent's point.

Well licensing under GPL is not giving it away for free. It is licensing the use of the code.
If you are wanting to use the code in a traditional commercial closed source sense then the GPL is no good so you may very well be prepared to pay for use.
25,000 civilians dead in Iraq since the invasion, 80% killed by the occupying forces (the rest by the insugents).
And now we want to use ray guns. Anyone else think the world's going a bit mad?
Comparing the 25,000 figure with the death toll due to terrorism around the world leads me to think that the west's policy is "an eye for an eyelash".

You can play HL2 in offline mode with no net connection. Always have been able to do so.
You just need to authenticate/activate the first time.

....is whether life exists in the White House....
It wasn't the story that didn't work (although it was crap IMO) but just that the movie had no spark.
I think it's more the environmental issues that should be worrying folk and not the cost. That's the trouble with us westerners, it's all "me me me".
I believe that in US law coporations have the same legal rights as individuals which seems pretty screwed up to me.
Shouldn't this read GOTO + OOP == C++ ?

I attempted to post just the text above the dashes and was rewarded with:
"Lameness filter encountered. Post aborted!
Reason: Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING."
Can I report the lameness filter for lameness?

What's wrong with reading articles and engaging brain before posting stories and comments?
I've got the book. All I can say is don't bother with it and stick to the cartoons.
I don't quite see why folks are getting aerated about this. Again...
If you don't like the GPL then you can just choose not to use it.
It's like people complaining about the quality of programs on the telly - don't they know that televisions have off switches?
Great for gaming too.....

Get that sorted and it can take over.

Humble too.
