I know some people won't get why they did this, or how Google will make money from YouTube. I will explain:

First, Google makes money through advertisement. Currently simple text banner ads. But a quick look at other sites will show you a growing interest in video ads. YouTube has a lot of visitors, and if Google plays this correctly they can make more advertisement dollars.

Secondly, YouTube signed some nice contracts with the likes of CBS and two music labels.

Most (like 98%) of office computers don't need 3D. Besides that, why is 3D impossible in a VM? I have seen .NET and Java apps, which both run on top of a VM, do 3D just fine. And if you want to be cross platform with the VM stick with a standard like OpenGL. Outside some game shops OpenGL is all that is needed. With that, you have roughly 99.999% of office computers covered. That remaining .001% can just (EGAD) avoid using the VM.

Thats good, and makes Microsofts job really, really hard when they want to undo this. As for the different distros you will notice that they point out that these are being implemented at a school by school basis. But why should that matter? They are using the OS to just be an OS and thats about all. They probably just want it to run a web browser and Open Office. I live in Indiana, and have several friends who teach in the school system, so I know from talking to them that the hardware is dated and just keeping Microsoft Windows running is a fulltime job on its own (patching, removing kids "tweaks", spyware removal, etc).

You are taking a lot of assumptions. First, you are thinking 4x4 will only contain the most current AMD chip technology as of today (FX-62). That's possibly a bad assumption since the 4x4 (1) hasn't been released and (2) we have no idea what chips will be in it and (3) we have no idea about what AMD will charge for this in the future. I could make assumptions that the 4x4 will contain chips that will be 4 times faster than the fastest Conroe. Think I'm wrong? Prove I'm wrong. You can't, just as much as I can't prove I'm right since it's all assumptions and wild guesses. Thats the future. Live with today. Conroe chips are faster and cheaper. If your getting a new computer you might want to get a Conroe instead of an AMD-FX62. But when the 4x4 comes out you might want to check again and see who the price and performance leader still is.
