    There are other countries other than the States, if you haven't noticed yet. Several of them, like Sweden, doesn't even make software algorithms patentable. So, if this was made outside the US, it might be perfectly legal.

    The obvious Slashdot answer would be "because MacOS X != Linux", but you have a good point there. Why won't these people realize that the most user-friendly Unix-like system isn't available for ordinary PC computers? I did, which resulted in me getting a nice Powerbook.

    There are about a thousand ways to do this on linux that are better than anything Apple has come up with itself. Perl. Python. Bourne Shell for christs sake.

    This is news to me. How the hell do you script things using Bash? Can you show he a quick example where you click one button in a specific app, then switches to another and types some text in? Both can be Qt apps if that makes things easier.

    Well, supposedly Apple had the ultimate UI before OSX, yet they felt the need to scrap it. You can find numerous articles where UI folks and Apple greybeards shit all over OSX's interface.

    Need I remind you of the UI catastrophy called X11? The stupid sod who said "we must have one global window manager for windows to look the same, but buttons and that sort of crap... nah, we'll just make users incredibly confused and choose no standard widget set" is a retard.

    I think you should believe this. Any computer connecting to Kazaa automatically gets registered as a supernode. Therefore, some unknowing university student or teacher could have acted as one without even knowing it.

    And before any click-happy Java zealots out there think about hiting reply, I am talking about compiled Java versus compiled C, not Java bytecode on a VM.

    Compiled Java is actually slower than JITted Java bytecode. Want proof that Java might actually be as fast as C? This article at Ace's Hardware shows off some pretty interesting numbers.

    The most important factor of today is time to market. Java apps can, with proper coding, run as fast or faster than the equivalent C code. Sure, you can create blazingly fast apps in C with lots of effort, but you can gain even more by moving to 100% assembler code. It's a development time versus slight speed difference tradeoff.

    You don't have to use Java just because others do. If you work best in C, C++, Python or some other language which you happen to prefer... Use that and stop complaining over my choice of language, dammit!

    Too bad for you, they will gain one very soon. I'm fed up with PC:s giving me incredibly amounts of trouble (Windows) or being plain user hostile (Linux). My old computer will have to act as a server in the future, where Linux actually fits very well. The computer I will sit in front of and work on will run MacOS X all the time.

    Ericsson started selling their R520m model a while ago. It has all of the mentioned features, and since it's a GSM phone you can use it almost anywhere in the world. Neat.

    Well... Mostly because it's correct. Like it or not, MacOS X is considered a real Unix and is used by tons of people because of the very user friendly interface.

    You won't get any greater speed if you move from C++ to C. In fact, you might get *less* speed from a switch like that since you will probably end up emulating classes poorly.

    DotGNU and Mono have two different goals. The folks from DotGNU wants to implement everything in C and make life harder for just about everyone, while the Mono projects focus on a native runtime and everything else in C#. That should give Mono more time for optimizing the JIT and therefore making all applications run faster.

    Actually, most applications of today are, if you are lucky, optimized for the Pentium Pro. Getting most software to support P4 will take about three to five years. Until then, you have to live with the fact that other processors perform better.

    If you find Pripps Blå a bad beer, you should really buy a can of Eurolager to a person that you hate. The taste reminds me of a sweaty horse, sprayed with dwarf piss. Only beer I have hated more is Budweiser because of it's lack of beer taste.

    For a better beer, try Fifty/Fifty (cheap but pretty good) and, of course, the almighty Kilkenny. Having a cold Kilkenny in the summer head is worth almost anything.

    Actually, the design plain sucks. Install a few applications on your computer. Now create a backup of your registry, reinstall Windows, replace the new registry file with your backup and run your applications. Will this work as you intended?

    I don't know about you, but my shiny Ericsson R520m seems better than most of the Motorola crap phones I have seen. All US-built phones that I have seen includes two useless things: extendable antenna and some sort of flip-down hatch. Why? They are totally useless anyway.
