Darn, you seem to have stumbled onto the underlying strategy of US Foreign Policy. DHS or CIA agents (depending on location) will be arriving shortly at your door to pick you up for your free Cuban vacation....
I live in DC and know a number of people who work on the Hill..... This is not their strong point (until 4 years ago most of the offices had a large number of typewriters (that were used) for gods sake). Just because the information is there doesn't mean they will use it, this set of people are more focused on things far seperated from technical issues. Just because the information is there doesn't mean that they are A: going to look for it and B: go through the effort of applying it (particularily since I looked those articles over and see no quick and easy guide to perform the trick (I can do it but I am a techie and work in security... though I write the rules to make sure that people cannot do stuff on our network)).
Remember that these people are poly-sci graduates. Other than from home these guys are not getting around it. Its not like they work for the NSA or some technical organization.
Wow.... Shocking that China would sign a treaty that would have absolutely no effect on them and the US would not sign something that would significantly hobble their economy.
Its important to remember that the leaders of of democratic countries have a responsiblity to protect the interests of THEIR people (if they do not do this then they do not stay in power too long), particularily when they sign something that hurts their own people and has no impact on basically anyone else. As much as you probably do not like Bush, the above statement is is damn good statement (an awefully good question, why would we sign a document that selectively targets countries, going after number one, ignoring number two, etc).
It is.. I think that it will take a lot to get me to abandon my favorite little tech toy... A couple of dozen books, several hours of TV and all my phone numbers/addresses in one place. All with a great screen and good battery life.
What Agency would this be? I have worked at 2, State and DOD, and haven't seen yellow used (Red was for uncleared contractors/employees, Green at DOD for contractors and a symbol on State badges to indicate status (otherwise identical)).
I must be one of the few who see no issue with this. Other governments do this for their corporations/industries all the time. In the US the cases where we have conducted espionage for our corporations is on a far smaller scale than most countries. Remember governments are supposed to exist to serve the interests of their people (sometimes they fall short, but that is the goal)....
Yeah, I noticed a unique US-centric POV in his reply. Particularily the last one on your list.... (aimed at Europeans) Yeah, you know we are talking about you....

Hmm... That just seems all out of character for a modern drug corporation. Most of the time they seem very focused on maximizing their profit. I would think that an external pressure (government) is more likely than corporate kindness......
Very simple government rule covers this.... Once it has been designated for one security clearance level you may NEVER designate it for use in lower classification level system, though it can be used in an equal or higher level system. And once its in an agency, its way too much of a hassle to share with a different branch, department or agency (the paperwork would eat up any cost savings).
Well said. I remember one time that I was on a Y2K management team and the leader decided to have some fun and asked each of the members what items they were making sure that they had in case things went wrong. Funny how my list was composed of exactly one item, "Ammo." After which I looked around the room with a slight smile on my face. I think I ruined the leaders game......
Oh no.... You really are going to shed tears over us exploiting a frickin lifeless (except maybe for some microbes) planet? I have an idea, lets have your group stay here (since I really don't want your self-loathing memnes leaving this planet) and let the rest of us leave as we see fit.
BTW, its the height of arrogance to think that we are "destroying the Earth". We may make it uncomfortable for the survivors, but I think that the Earth will come out in the (geological) end perfectly fine.
More like the first person to take control and hold onto the high orbitals of Mars is going to be the King. Hypersonic aimed rock beats gun any day of the week.
Heh.... I myself pick odd places to be open (though if anyone asks me directly I will tell them). The last group that asked was when I was doing basic training for the Army National Guard... Many a 17 year old boy (and most of them from the center of the country, so my salary looks even larger to that group (from the DC area)) gave me a look that said I was crazy to take a break from my 95k government job (at least I didn't completely confirm their "the world is unfair" attitude by telling that my job can be really easy most of the time). I actually came to look forward to one of them asking (since in basic training all you do is talk to each other, so every so often one of them would have a hard time believing the rumor and ask me directly).
This is solely my personal opinion, and not backed with any authority of any kind or any backing of any government agency. Just a kindly warning to my fellow government wage slaves....
I would strongly suggest you not follow any of the links to the document unless you are involved in the investigation (which I assume is ongoing, but I have no personal knowledge that there is one) at this time (at least from a USG computer). While I don't know anything about the veracity of this information I don't think that you want to deal with the potential heat of having your local ISSO's finding anything on your HD with S//NF....
How to elect stupid arrogant bastards. Hey now... We learned that from the masters, y'all.... America was laid with European planks, remember?
How to make war to the rest of the world.
How to destroy the eco-system as much as possible.
How to give weapons to our child so they can be mass murderers.
And, most of all, how to give lessons to everyone without the slightest doubt.
Ditto... Ditto.... Ditto.... Ditto....
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I don't claim any sort of moral superiority (its pretty much an even playing field IMNSHO), but I do object when you guys get up on your soapbox and attempt to lecture us.
you probably only half understand it (since geeks do it too, just not quite as often as Gvt people do). And I say this with good humor given that I am a FTE with DOS.
I like the current name that is being applied to the bad guys in Iraq. AIF - "Anti-Iraqi Forces" They seem to go after more Iraqi's than Americans nowadays.....
The only time that I even dress up at all is when I go hunting my favorite species, Man. Somehow I find it hard to imagine any military service having issues with me practicing shooting and small unit tactics (good old paintball).
Its a persistant thing. Just because it is new doesn't mean that it is better (will this statement get me thrown out of geekdom?). I am asuming that the writer has lumped D&D and AD&D together, but as far as things go it is a pretty enduring system. Very straightforward in its basics, with lots of room for expansion. Though as a gamer it pains me to not seen a line drawn between regular gamers and LARPers... Between them and the SCA folks, they make reular tabletop gamers look downright normal (though lacking in hiegenics and weight control issues (when you are 240lb and everyone else at the table can truely call you tiny, thats an issue)).
This includes the familiar and excellent Tivo remote. Oh my god, you are serious. For a second there I thought you were kidding. We are talking about the same remote that forces you to actually look at the thing, because of that wonderful design that makes it impossible to figure out which end is which without a lot of fumbling? Or the one that separated the very useful delete key from the buttons that allow you to move on? Give me my old Sony remote any day of the week!
Those of us in the Mid-Atlantic (in my case Washington DC) get the same turnaround. I think it all depends on how close you are to the distribution facility.

You sorely underestimate the lazyness of the average /.er.......

goes on there is largely blatently illegal
? A reasonable amount of secrecy around the US's most advanced aerospace assets is illegal?
