Anonymity just allows more options. Someone might find it worthwhile to get a fact or slander out in the open at the expense of it not being trusted because the source was anonymous.
Someone else might hold back a bit on the truth or the vitriol, but back their comment with their
reputation.
I think there is room in the world for both.
There have been 123 launches of the Space Shuttle which uses two of this type of motor and one failure. Thus, the historical LOM failure rate is 1 in 246.
I think it is a bit more complicated than this. Some of these flights used the original SRB, and some used the RSRM. Presumably saftety has improved with the redesigned motor.
Not to mention that the one J-2X has to fire, but also the one AJ10-118K engine on the Crew Exploration Vehicle has to fire, for Ares I to miss the Earth! That sounds like two engines to me.
I wonder how people would respond to a comparison between free software and a farmer's co-op. What do you mean each farmer doesn't own a combine, fully-stocked repair shop, storage barn, and grain silo? You mean there is a way to share expenses and allow the farmer to grow a crop without having to subscribe to Diesel Mechanic magazine?
DIRECT sounds easy until someone actually bolts some engines to the bottom of the External Tank and sets a payload or second stage on top of the tank. I wonder if the complications that arise when DIRECT is at a comparable planning stage to Ares will seem any less daunting.
That's why I just tagged this story backbacon, eh?

The only people...are the Creationists.
Agreed. I still hear US radio broadcasters squealing about Nebraska Man. They continue to flog that long-deceased peccary.

It relies solely on a solid rocket for the first stage of it's ascent! WFT!
Yeah, WFT???!!?
damburger, I think you have convinced me. You seem to have the intelligence, poise, and people skills that are needed.
Will you consider accepting the position of NASA Administrator for the new administration?
Using new AMD processor.

Just my 2 cents worth of speculation...
Pennies!
Who told whom that the plane was running out of fuel? Was it the granddaughter of the schoolkid who heard Amelia Earhart's final transmission?

Why would someone read a journal entry of someone who makes so many tyops in a short post?
Was this article merely a troll so someone would mention the OLPC?
Can we detect or estimate the number of sunspots on the far side of the sun?
The Mars lander is dying.

Mod this guy up. He may be wrong, but it's a great point!

Why not OpenBSD? Only two remote holes in the default election, in more than 10 years!
