    But what if you modify and recompile your linux kernel? That makes you more akin to Ford Motor Company than just a schmuck that drives a Taurus.
    I think it makes you more akin to a mechanic than Ford Motor Company.

    I don't know what machines they use but in the small town of Derby IA my mom works on the election board. They have computerized voting machines that will print off a record every 5 votes in random order. That is it stores the last 5 ballots internally then prints off the votes in a random order so you can't correlate the vote to the voter.

    HDTV is very superior to regular TV. If you record a regular TV broadcast of some movie you might still be inclined to go buy the DVD to get a better picture and sound but if you record the digital HDTV signal there is no reason to buy the dvd because the HDTV signal is even better than the DVD.

    Duh. How about just examining your vomitus and/or feces? That should jog your memory. I mean, if you aren't puking or drizzling, you wouldn't be reporting to this site, right?

    Because sometimes what made you sick isn't what you are puking up or droping out. Some pathogens take over 48 hours to incubate into an illenss by then the food that you ate is long gone.

    I used to work for Communicable Disease Control for the state of Missouri. They had problems with a lot of people reporting resturants as the source of their illness since it was the last place they ate. So they blamed the Wendy's they ate at on the way home from a day at the lake where they had grilled chicken and infected themselves.

    Apart from that fact that I have to wonder whatfor people living in some fuckin slum need a computer!
    How about to educate themselves and get out of the slum. I came from a poor rural area not realy a slum. My parents overextended their budget buing a C64 for us when I was in junior high. Many people saw that as a waste of money. My parents saw that as an investment. It paid off. I'm a programmer now.

    What I want out of wearable computing is an eyepiece or specs that connect to a pda/computer wirelessly that overlays what I see with information.
    Doing things like facial recognition and putting people's names under them and maybe some information you wanted to remember about them. Like 'don't ask john about his wife'.

    There was an Amazing stories (or some similar show) episode where the basic premise was that being a were-wolf was a defense to the presence of vampires. That is when vampires moved into the neighborhood some people turned into werewolves to fight them off.

    I think it would be technologicly feasable to have people living on the moon in 20 years, but I don't think there will be a financial inscentive for the huge cost.

    Very interesting but I think it wouldn't work well, since most of the trolls and flamethrowers are talking about the same topics the same words will show up in both ham and spam posts. But if someone could come up with a word pattern algorithm that could differentiate that would rock.

    Wow actually going against people who broke the law? I didn't like that the RIAA was going after all these middle men who provided sharing services and software but the file swapers actually broke copy right law. I think this is a much fairer tactic. They also started with warning letters instead of a bagillion dollar lawsuit. I think this is the way they should handle copyright infringement.

    Yes, it makes it public knowledge, but that is only an issue in trade secrets not copyright.

    The lyrics to songs are public knowledge but you can't perform in public without paying the artists association.

    Nearly every instant messaging client has the ability to always log conversations

    Client side logging is not sufficient. An employee can turn that off or delete the logs. The logging would have to be done server side. That would require a corporate IM solution which would log. I work for a company effected by this law. They don't allow any external or web based e-mail access for the same reason, they can't log it unless you go through their server.

    So much for freedom of speech

    You can still say what you want, you just have to allow the entity you are talking about a chance to reply. This has been 'good practice' in any real journalism for a while. You often see in news stories companyxxx was contacted but refused to reply or gave no comment or something.

    No freedom of speach issues here.

    My impression is that newer avionics are 'more imune' to the interference. It's all the electrinocs pre 1989 that are prone to interference. It's just that there are a lot of planes out there that pre-date 89 and there will be for a while.

    Hmm, to me it would depend on what the statement is like. For example a statement like "We are planning a word processor that can improve your sex life" and then the magical sex life improving feature gets cut is ok. But "We have a word processor that can improve your sex life" is a lie. I realize improving your sex life is an insane feature it is just an example.
    As a developer I see features get cut because of feasability/time/customers weren't impressed with the feature in the vaporware announcements. So I think it is important to be allowed to talk about features you don't have.

    I don't think it is supporting that per say, as much as agreeing that congress has the constitutional right to set the copyright duration, something that has already been upheld in court. This is just a way of saying if the copyright owners don't care about the work anymore why let it disappear.
