    I'm teaching an online course using Centra next semester, and for this one thing I have to buy a copy of XP to load on my MacBook (I'm just glad I have the Intel machine to run it on).

    There's no price break from the university, but I can buy XP Home SP2 OEM online for $87. As an adjunct professor, that's about what I'll make for teaching the course.

    Oh? Since when? According to whom?

    I'm a relative noob, having only used e-mail since 1990, but for the last 16 years I've managed just fine without it. (Nowadays I configure my mail client to ignore HTML. It still works.)

    Usenet is better than the web for reading lots of posts too.

    Ya think? I mean aside from being perfectly designed to hang from the passenger door handle of teenage lovers' cars, a hook it not exactly the most useful interface in the modern world. How do you dial (or push) a telephone with a hook? How do you type with a hook?

    Bravo for open source! It's about time someone designed something better than a hook, like maybe five knife fingers or a chainsaw.

    You're at 10,000 feet...Of course with the freezing cold in the upper atmosphere, its not unlikely you will hit sea level as a block of frozen ice, if you don't asphyxiate first.

    I think you meant 40,000 feet. 10,000 feet has plenty of air and, in the summer, is warm enough to wear a tee shirt, as anyone who's been on a medium-sized mountain knows.
