I'd be a little concerned about having the ability to access digital pictures 10 or 20 years from now because of changing standards. I can look in an old picture album and see pictures of my great-grandparents that were taken over 60 years ago.
How likely is it that I'm going to be able to read a CD-R I've burned with my family pictures 40 years from now?
That's one of the big things I like about my palm III-c. It charges in it's hotsync cradle. It never made much sense to me to have to replace the batteries in the older model palms and some other PDA's.
Now if I can just convince myself that I really _need_ one of those palm m515's. Mmm... technolust.
I'm all for replacing the $1 bill with coins, like those gold ones that nobody ever seems to use. I travelled a while back thru Canada and saw their $1 and $2 coins (loonies and two'nies) I think it's a good idea. The coins are going to last a lot longer than the bills so I think it'd be more cost effective for the goverment in the long run. Of course, all sorts of other costs would be involved in vending machines and such.
At least for me it is. I can't compete on price with any of the big chain stores. I guess I _could_ put together some box with the lowest price parts in it but I don't build _my_ boxes that way. I use quality parts and that makes my boxes more expensive than dell or whoever.
Of course, once you have a good base, it's not that expensive if you upgrade it all the time.:)
I use pricewatch.com when i'm ready to buy.. i've used a few of the companies that come up tops in price for cpu's and tyan, asus, abit motherboards.
I'm really happy with my Fujitsu Lifebook S Series. I'm using Gentoo Linux on it now but I'm not quite done getting it configured.
I heard that Fujitsu is one of the larger laptop sellers in Europe and Asia but I couldn't find any around where I live in the USA. It's odd that Fujitsu isn't bigger in the USA. It's a good laptop, I've run it hard for over a year now with no problems at all. I'd recommend one.
I'm not much up on Win2k right now but at work it they've got it figured out. Each user has a roaming profile, which might not be usefull in your case. However, everyone's 'My Documents' folder is actually on a network share. It's also local, but it's sync'd when on the network. It's solved some problems we were having with the remote users and now the help-desk can use any desk with their familiar stuff. Plus, everything is backed up by automated tasks on the server.
You can do the same thing with linux or bsd of course.
This is one thing that's bothered me for a while. I live in San Antonio, TX and there is an (awesome) rock station here, 99.5 KISS. KISS is their FCC issued call letters.
Why are there so many KISS FM's? I thought the FCC call letters were unique.
99.5 KISS FM here in San Antonio is awesome, it should be on sattelite radio, too!
People confuse the terms all the time. Many pistols and rifles are 'automatic' meaning that the weapon prepares itself for the next shot after one is fired. IE: No cocking required.
You're thinking of 'fully automatic' where as long as the trigger is held down it spews bullets. IE: machine gun. Very, very, very few of these are used in crimes compared to regular pistols and rifles.
There is lots of public (voter) confusion on this and many laws are going thru that affect 'automatic' rifles and pistols instead of fully automatic versions. I've talked to two gun control activitists, one of which didn't even know the difference between automatic and fully automatic. Both of them were 'preaching' for banning 'automatic' weapons, where they were really talking about fully auto rifles and machine guns. Quite a shame, really.
Yes, yes... I own some guns but I don't consider myself a gun-nut. I think this is an important distinction that needs to be made.
What? Microsoft actually 'lost' a legal action? I don't count the anti-trade issues as 'lost' yet simply because it's not over and everything is going as MS wishes, anyway. This DigitalDiva issue definately a loss for MS, even if it is a minor one...
It's much easier, and cheaper, for a big company like Sega to have their lawyers send out threatening letters to everyone who 'might' be infringing on their rights. Why spend the time and effort finding the real 'bad guys' when 99% of the recipients of letters like this will cave in because they are either scared of the lawyers, or financially unable to battle them.
It all comes down to money after all. By using heavy handed tactics like this Sega can kill the most birds with one stone. I applaud ISONews for standing up for their, and everyone's, right.
Too bad they don't have any shirts other than T-Shirts... I can't get by wearing a T-Shirt to work but if they did the same kind of designs on polo type shirts I'd buy a couple.

I know I have 2x10^3 more mp3's than my least tech-savvy friend. He's got tons of CD's and DVD's tho -vs- my mp3's and divix files.

Maybe it's just everyone but you?
I thought it was all funny.

Well, one good thing.... Those who only engage in cybersex will ultimately breed themselves out of the gene pool.
