Well, as someone who has certainly infringed more than his fair share of works, what I'm about to say isn't reflective of my views on piracy.
How exactly does shutting down a huge profit stealing theft racket show how stupid he is? Seems like a pretty smart move to me (from his standpoint.)
I wasn't trying to slam you at all, in fact I agree that they need to change tactics considerably, and that lying and saying it is "theft" when it actually isn't is not cool. I was just pointing out a little spelling error in what you called your "beta" email to this guy. I was under the assumption that you were planning on sending that and were looking for feedback on it, hence labelling it as beta.
My bad, guess you were just trying to be a jackass and let the world know that if they want to find oliverthered, they shouldn't bother looking in the cinimas. Go you!
has anyone done this completely in linux? when I run the installer I get a few errors towards the end of the install and then the executable doesnt run. those isntructions say to copy over your windows install dir, but I have none.
Well, in all fairness, the source for the ssh client is distributed with the SDK; a free download. Anyone techy enough to want to use the ssh client can just sign up for the sdk and install it that way. There's tons of applications you can install from skdr.net, all written by users.
They can animate their pictures using tape, pipe-cleaners and cardboard cutouts and I'll still pay 10 bucks to watch.
As someone who has done some stop motion animation, I would actually prefer to see them do it that way. The immensely larger workload would mean much more care put into it, thusly, a better product. Better "Art"
There was a bit towards the end that left me confused; two older guys said something to each other like 'Now THATS oldschool!' or something along those lines. One of them vaguely looked like that Gerry guy from Gerrys Game (the chess playing short), but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be him or not? Anyone know what I'm talking about?
FWIW, the chevron adverts were done by Nick Park's Aardman Animation studio, of Wallace and Gromit fame. Now THOSE guys sure know a thing or 2 about artistry.
i noticed something was up about them, but over the years ive tried very hard not to notice the burns (largely unsuccessfully) and more recently the orange print markings. i really hate those, but the burns i've kind of learned to accept. why on earth do they still have them in a visible area of the film? why not put them off by the audio track or something?
I especially loved the cold flourescent lighting in the insurance office. Those scenes were the only ones that "fooled" me even for a short time. They just plain looked real.
I thought exactly the same thing. Even Ozymandius's tactic was kind copied by Synapse (or whatever his name was) towards the end. Well, similarly anyways, different motive though.
i have 2 of these, theyre really great. amazon has them usually for around $67, they work flawlessly, and will play almost everything you could put in there. i guess theres a couple divx encoders that it cant handle (yet), and i have come across a file or 2 that it wouldnt play, but if you're ripping your own stuff it should be fine. firmware upgradeable as well, just burn new firmware to cdr and follow the instructions. it will play divx/xvid/mpeg4 off cdr, cdrw, dvd+r/rw and dvd-r/rw, as well as being region free and progressive scan. best $67 i've ever spent.
its a device feature. you basically select 'play for this amount of time, selecting only these types of files' the neat part is you can say only play the newest files, or the least often played files, or the most frequently played files. i really want to get one of these because the random on my 20gig neuros is really really shitty. it constantly randomly picks the same songs in the same order as yesterday. also it locks up and you have to remove it from its backpack to power it off. at least theres no whacking involved, but sheesh, what a pain in the ass.
actually, from what i've read mp3 isnt technically able to play gapless, theres a leading/trailing edge silence encoded into it. the karma allegedly buffers these out by detecting the silence and mixing the 2 minus the lead/trail edges. dont know this for a fact tho.
ditto that, first 6 requests for invite to nyquil+invites@gmail.com get them. no msn or yahoo accounts tho, they apparantly filter out and i dont get my invite back for a couple days
I currently use one of those stylish slimline metal cigarette cases as a wallet. I've been meaning to put an insert in it for cards and whatnot, but just having a stack of cards and some cash under the little spring loaded arm works pretty darn well as is. The nice thing is its only like a quarter of an inch thick, so you can kiss your lower lumbar wallet pain (that you probably didn't even know you had) goodbye, you can't fit a huge amount of crap in it so it forces you to throw out those damn receipts, and since its several layers of steel it might even deflect a bullet. Plus whipping it out with one hand, hitting the spring loaded open button with your thumb and making it flip violently yet smoothly open looks really damn cool (until all your shit flies up in the air because you forgot to make sure it was under the spring arm.) Best wallet ever.
it does in fact work in linux, i use it all the time. the playstation boots up and contacts the local server you are running (i'm using the java version under linux), checks for new version of the player/codecs, downloads them to the local server if neccessary, then copies the player executable (java) to the ps2 and loads it. then you browse thru all the files you have shared, and play them. it works really really well.
I'm currently reading Harry Potter 6 in an ebook reader on my psp.
I wanted to read comic books in the PSP's image viewer, but it was too slow and crappy and also doesnt realize that 01 comes before 10 in filenames.
Fortunately there's now a much better homebrew app that works really well.
Playing Dr. Mario in the NES emulator is pretty sweet as well.

Matthew Grossman probably knows how to spell cinema and might be less impressed with your spelling of it :)

..and apparantly Pixar bought a good number of them. 2D Pixar animations anyone?
You stopped after episode 5 too huh?
thanks so much for clearing this up, i really appreciate it
It definitely looks geared a bit more to kids..
ha! pun intended?

also, this character looked EXACTLY like stephen king. it tripped me out.
that totally cracked me up, thanks for reminding of this
