Apple uses proprietary firmware to make MacOS only bootable on Apple Systems, and I think the stopping of the clones was Steve Jobbs doing (They were cheaper than Apple's offerings, but up to par with Apple's machines).
But somehow, I couln't imagine a clone manufacturer comming up with the beatifull cases that Apple came up with :-)

The market is holding them back, because apart from us Linux/BSD users that dream of a PowerPC based system, no one else would buy it, because MacOS wouldn't run on it and the normal Joe has no user of a PowerPC system running some kind of free *nix.

If they would be manufactured, they would only be manufactured in small quantities, making them expensive as hell.

All it says is that it's some form of online game, I guess an RPG, and that it is somehow supposed to be revolutionary.

What I would enjoy is if it where an RPG where society, science, and technology develops and advances, somehow like a complete virtual world.

All I know of the Gamecube is that it is based on some kind of PPC CPU and I think an ATI video chip.

The PS2 is IMHO the bestchoice of the 3 because it is powerfull and Linux is officially sold for it by Sony (albeit only in Japan right now, but hopefully this will change).

Today, scientists don't have it easy. Just look at most, learning just for the sake of learning only plays a small role today, most researchers work either for the government or for businesses, and they have to release early and often, because otherwise either their fudning will be cut or they will be fired.

But still, we have to take chances, even if, after a failed mission, NASA gets attacked everywhere, even here. And we here should know that working on anything advanced, whether it's an operating system or a spaceship automatically leads you to failures. It's what comes out in the end that counts.

I agree. Putting NFS and other servers (Tux, for example) into the kernel looses you all the advantages that a modular system (like *nix is suppsoed to be) has, because if something that's part of the kernelcrashes, it is a lot more probable for the kernel to go down in flames. If the userland server crashes, then the system normally stays up. Thus, the server can be restarted and fixed/patched/reconfigured/whatever without disturbing anything else running on the same box.
