  1. Better for your knees too on Hackers On Atkins · · Score: 1

Bicycling around better for your knees, especially when you are still overweight.

  2. Funny coloured cash rocks on More on Talking Shopping Carts · · Score: 1

Very hard to get shortchanged. Make it out of plastic like us Australians, much harder to forge as well.

  3. Sum up the answers on Ideas Unlimited: 11 Suggestions for New Inventions · · Score: 1

A bunch of people want _a_ device that does everything all their devices do, in a really small form factor. Possibly make it look cool.

Scott Adams wants a cat locator.

Navratilova wants a laser determined in or out for tennis, and possibly to do away with the umpire.

Some guy wants a form filler outerer. XML is a start, tagging info semantically. Its a while till everyone agrees to use the same formats tho.

Moby wants a safe high. God bless you Moby for being honest.

  4. Ooops on Should Hackers Get Their Own Logo? · · Score: 1

Thats what I meant. I stuffed up.

  5. Some other ideas on Should Hackers Get Their Own Logo? · · Score: 2, Interesting
A black hat (for 'good' hackers')
A white hat (for 'bad' cr^H^Hhackers)

The actual type of hat could be modified geographically. Americans get a stetson, the English a bowler, Canadians a deer hunter, with the flaps, Moroccans a fez, etc etc. Us Aussies will take either an Akubra or a beanie.

Another idea is just a big machete, or possibly an axe. ie: 'hacker' maybe put it in the hands of a maniac, like the guy from here

  6. University of Wollongong IACT 416 on Software Exorcism · · Score: 1

Wollongong Uni (NSW, Australia) has an Information and Communication Technology 4th year subject called "Organisational Issues in IT" - It sounds like this book is tailor made for this subject. Maybe Dr. Bomba could add it in.

he currently uses a textbook called "Power, Politics and Organizational Change" by Buchanan and Badham.

This book takes the line that Political behaviour is only seen as bad by those who are either not skilled, or have been on the losing end. It then gives case studies and examples of where political behaviour has beenthe only way to get a project to proceed.

It's pretty cynical, but very matter of fact. Good for people interested in this stuff. I was torn when I read it, I could see why they said things, but I want to beleive the world is a nicer place.

  7. Thats what I thought on USB/Firewire "Branching" -- Is it Possible? · · Score: 1

  14. Post Probe on Memory Activity LEDs · · Score: 1

Is a card that plugs into the pci bus with some 8panel led's on it. On boot, displays the post codes. Cross-reference the code displayed when the system halts with the table in the accompanying book for your bios and voila - u know what the problem is. Good for systems which don't make it to loading the OS.

There are various other types of these cards.

  15. It doesn't matter on Beatles Bite Apple · · Score: 1

For all the Mac fans saying Apple Computers can't be confused with Apple Music - it doesn't matter.

Years ago, when Apple music was huge, and Apple computers wasn't, Apple Computers signed a deal saying something along the lines of 'we promise not to get involved in music or the music industry, or we forfeit our name and huge wads of cash.'

Well, they got involved in the music industry.
Maybe it just took a while to do the prepwork for the lawsuit. This is less about who's big and famous now, and more about who got there first. Apple computers have backed down several times when Apple Music have reminded them about this agreement.

This may be about a cynical money grab, but maybe its about enforcing your contract rights.

  16. I thought similarly, however... on PA Child Porn-Blocking Law Challenged, Suspended · · Score: 1

I thought they meant the child of Gabe and Kara from Penny Arcade . Which is odd. Mainly because they don't appear to have children yet.

  21. Isolationist policies. Not a fan on Osirusoft Blacklists The World · · Score: 0, Troll

I read a lot of fanfic, and original fiction on the net. I like to zip off little 'Hey, I liked your story' notes, often to people I have never communicated with. I can do this because its easy and I like giving authors feedback. Your solution will make it incredibly difficult to start a dialogue with strangers.

Whitelists and blacklists, 'us and them' policies... I'm guessing you're american.

  22. Its the future on Beyond Binary Computing? · · Score: 1

I remember reading a scifi parody/comedy where it was stated that "true AI was not developed until ternery logic was developed (yes, no, maybe). This explains why all AI's are female."

I wish I could remember the name of that story.
