There is a website dedicated to Russian Science Fiction and Fantasy writers and gives bio's on the writers and what books they have released and so forth.. great site to check out
I've read a few Russian sci-fi books when I was young (i'm russian).. but unfortunately my knowledge of the language has started to fade;-)
Linux is very customizable when it comes to using window managers... your typical Linux user and choose from KDE, Gnome, blackbox (my personal favorite), icewm, vanilla, Enlightenment, etc.. etc.. where as with OS X... ok you got everything set up in a KDEish type desktop environment... the only other "cool" thing i noticed with it is that you can switch back to Mac OS 9 (which takes about a good 2-3 minutes to do that)... not to mention... the fact that you get a unix shell in Mac OS X is nothing special... it's really limited to what you can and can't do in the shell... hell you can't even use make... i guess it's Apple's way of saying "hey... in windows you can run a DOS prompt... why don't we let our users run a BSD shell"
in the long run, Mac OS X really isn't as special as people say it is... not to mention the first release was buggy as hell
heh.. seeing Minesweeper on the list reminded me of WinFlower and the ICBW (International Campaign to Ban Winmine)... anybody try out that game? you can find it here. btw, it's java-based
as amazing and helpful as these books are, and other great online resources not to mention, a majority of sys admins don't apply what they've learned on their servers... at the last company I worked for... our department specifically hired a "security" guy... of course he was just a guy who just got his MCSE 2000:-P but that's another thing... the thing is, the guy knew squat.. in the time we hired this guy, till the company i worked for went out of business... 2 servers in the company got hacked (NT boxes.. nothing special).. he did nothing about it... maybe it was just where i worked.. but it's just sad how anyone can just get some sort of a certificate and automatically classify them as a "sys admin" or something ridiculous like that
by buying or partnering with enough smaller providers to offer a national service
so say for the sake of argument this company of his goes good and grows pretty well, then let's say Joe Shmoe wanted to start a similar company.. from the possible scenarios i can think of he'll either
a) possibly (though most likely not) hit it big
b) partner up with Boingo!
c) fail and go out of business, and have his assets be bought out by Boingo!
Ever since Verizon merged with 7 phone companies into one, service and PR has become awful with them... i guess the bigger they get, the more out of control they become
from seeing the pictures on NYLUG's website... i think the protest is between 40th and 41st street on 5th Ave. i think... better to know for sure so we don't get lost:-)
i went to the New York LUG's website for info on protests in New York City, but I couldn't find anything. If anybody reading this comment is from New York City... could you let me know when/where the protests will be? thanks

if this is going to affect Larry's Oracard project. Maybe the government should consider using mySQL? ;-)

the fact that XP's desktop looks like Playskool's My First PC(TM) (or Tyco) is a good enough reason for me, at least, not to install that garbage
