I keep saying it, if one company would make this cheap it wouldn't be just a toy. Cost is the main problem with wireless, and why I haven't adopted it.

god damnit I swear to fucking god make some fucking sense. Why the fuck are you trying to salvage a worthless shithole of an os?
Tell ya what... You're a linux smart guy if you're defending this. Spend two hours of your pay and buy a good OS. You're worse than trying to convert a christian to the truth.
I'm on the "blazing" internet 2 now. This office is part of the main connection. But guess what! There's 1 connection coming in. And interstate workers have cut the line like 3 times in the last week.
How am I supposed to keep productivity up with this internet 2 thing?!

first off. XP does allow you to log onto domains. Also, it adds tons of features that win2k doesn't have.
It has the backup/restore that winmeME has. Terminal server is built in. A lot of family safety features are added too. Windows update is done automatically. CD-R software is built in. So is zip functionality. And it's all done really nicely.
I love when they call. Mess with their heads. I once told the guy "i'm on the can, but go ahead" Then strained and grunted while he was talking. It was fun, but I laughed too hard then hung up.
"For example, the Microsoft Natural Keyboard and the improvements in the design of the Microsoft Mouse came out of this group"
This is great because I work at a department at my university where a guy downstairs is suing microsoft. You wanna know why?
Way back when he was typing on his keyboard and noticed his wrists were starting to hurt. He then created the first natural keyboard. Upon trying to sell it to several companies and failing, he tried microsoft (Software only, at the time.) Unfortunately they declined, but strangely enough they started making hardware later. One of their first creations... The natural keyboard.
I really wish I knew the guy's name right now. But he works one floor below me. I'll post on it if I find out any more info.
"We never sleep. Our IOS software is constantly searching the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our intelligent scanning probes are customized to each client's needs and patrol the Internet searching for suspicious sites."
For A Linux box or a Windows box, go through the same list and realize that it's the administrator that matters. Not the OS! Really. A windows box can be just as secure as linux box if the administrator knows what he is doing. An admin for a win2k box is cheaper than a linux admin. There's more of them. So the cost of the OS takes itself out.
1) Pick a platform that is difficult to administer remotely
(2) Pick a platform that is insecure
3) Pick a platform that can't handle the amount of customers you have
4) Pick a platform that costs a tonne of money
5) Pick a platform that requires a person with a dodgy qualification to run it, who doesn't know left from right, and demands more money than they are worth
6) Pick a platform that is proprietary
7) Pick a platform that runs on low-end server hardware or worse only
8) Pick a platform that you will have to lease by the year or per billion processor cycles within the next 3 years
9) Pick a platform with a database server that "loses" data given certain queries
10) Pick a platform that is forever morphing, changing technology, and has a history of instability
11) Pick a platform which would get you the sack if management had a clue
A funny story from where I work. Some guy took the code from the melissa virus and tried to do the same thing. While doing it, he accidentally ran it and set off his screwed up version of it accross our network. Big fun:)
I hate to say it, but the old L.L. Bean Deluxe School bag is the best I've found. It has a ton of small front pockets and a laptop fits perfectly in the center larger pocket. Plus you can put your clothes in the big pocket.
Also, you can use it as a pillow if you don't have a hotel room and have to walk miles a day in the sun. a.k.a. my defcon experience last year.:)

windows is better.
Wake up. Idiots.
I'd rather be dead than you brainwashed fucks.

by default winxp has "Automatic Updates" enabled in the system properties.
It has 3 options:
1. download automatically and notify when downloaded *NOT INSTALLED* (DEFAULT)
2. Notify before updated
3. no update
changes automatically.
AUTO
plus, that notification thingy was an update in itself

Don't knock this until you try it...
This won't be modded up though. You know why.
This is great!
I can get a diploma, make $20,000 in just 2 weeks, and now I can have a 100 inch tv for little cost at all!
I'm gonna start reading my hotmail bulk-mail folder more often!
"more than 5,000 computers"
I'll say 8,000 to be nice...
"federal government could result in savings of 250 million marks (US$116 million)"
That comes out to $14,500 a computer... I built my linux box for about 500 bucks and it's nearly top of the line...
I love when they call. Mess with their heads. I once told the guy "i'm on the can, but go ahead" Then strained and grunted while he was talking. It was fun, but I laughed too hard then hung up.
I hope to god this is modded up. Anyway.

Are we ready yet?! I DON'T KNOW! IT'S CRAZY. e-mail's going to take over and rule us all!!!!
Then Jesus will come down and save those who warship him!
atleast that's what I heard from jack van impe.
Really. Slashdot has gotten more and more close minded. I can't respect this crap anymore.
Don't worry, you'll still get hits from me. I'm not going to post anymore except to spam.
Don't they already have a P rating or something of the sort? It's from way back when they did the k5's I believe.
I'm right by new orleans... How much was the cost?
"We never sleep. Our IOS software is constantly searching the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our intelligent scanning probes are customized to each client's needs and patrol the Internet searching for suspicious sites."
Isn't scanning illegal now too?
Check this out: The software They're running
Yea, the cost of ownership part was kinda offtopic, but so is this whole thread. But you make good points in here too.
Thanks, I'm actually gonna go check this out at Barnes & Noble tonight.

I have a great link on this topic:

I hate to say it, but the replies you get may be a *bit* biased at slashdot. :)
Yesterday I had to present a scheduler for a hotel that I was supposed to have written. I sure as hell didn't finish.
I walked in with a notebook, asked a few questions, then said the CODE RED virus was the reason I couldn't get to my machine to show it off.
I'm supposed to be finishing it now... But i'm posting to slashdot...
