  1. IDEA! on $199 Freescale Tablet Design Runs Chromium OS · · Score: 4, Funny

    I have an awesome idea!

Instead of $199 for people that will buy it, lets make it:
    - For Children in (um, africa? india? as long as it's not Gadget Geeks...)
    - Bright green (or uglier if possible! Think Big!)
    - Delayed by 4 years
    - Cost Twice as much!

    THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

    How about Slashdot?

I know, we're the converted, but think about how Gizmodo and Engadget have changed how "Tech News" is reported.

Slashdot used to be the ONLY good place to get tech news. I remember telling someone "Slashdot is like the 'What's New' of Popular Mechanics, but free!"

I wouldn't even mention slashdot now. I'm not leaving, but I don't see any reason to convert others...

"It is also distributing stickers that businesses post in their windows and passers-by can scan with cellphones to get coupons or information about the business. "

The business could just do free wifi w/the info on the "accept" page.

A HUGE warning about the Tivo:

Tivo lists show transferring is a big feature but...

EVERYTHING worth watching on cable is DRM'd. EVERYTHING.

It bugs me that they advertise this as a feature.

Blame Time Warner, Cox, Comcast, whoever you want, but the TIVO does not transfer anything but your fox, nbc, and cbs channels.

    Analogy:
    - Ford makes a car that can't drive over speed bumps
    - Ford advertises the car jumping speed bumps
    - After buying the car, Ford tells you to drive on limited roads or YOU can call your local town hall to fix every speed bump in town. Ford has no responsibility, and will not assist in any way.

Only 2 months left on my contract, and I'm done with this scam.

  11. My Guess on Cost on Google Releases Source To Chromium OS · · Score: 2, Interesting

If the OS can't be downloaded, it's attached to the hardware 1-to-1.

The hardware can't cost a penny more than a netbook ($250-300) or we'd just get a netbook.

Removing the harddrive, or putting a small 4gb SD drive, will put it around $200.

    $200: Meh.

$150: I'd rush the doors like a Walmart on Black Friday.

  20. Propane Tank Model on Developing Battery Replacement Infrastructure For Electric Cars · · Score: 3, Insightful

This is similar to the Propane Tank business model.

The BIG problem I see here is that with a propane tank, you always get the same amount of propane in return. I see potential for old batteries to float through the system, getting less charges.

Now that I think about it, I bet this will be like buying "premium" gas.
