Aww, Psychonauts is the name of some game? And here I was hoping there was going to be a resurgence in the availability of LSD. Open your source, open your mind, Slashdotters.
Hate to criticize, but if this computer was plugged into a UPS, it was probably doing something important. And in that case, why do you hand Microsoft software the power to decide when to download and install updates automatically in the first place? Seems common sense to switch automatic updates to notify, but don't download or install. That's what I personally do on all my Windows boxen.
Speaking as a psychology student: Duh! I've never even heard of this idea that deja vu is only tied to sight.
Speaking as a human being: Personally, I'm an extremely unvisual person, and I'm not sure if I ever had deja vu tied to sight. My deja vu is tied almost exclusively to speech, which is kind of what my brain focuses on in general.
The GameCube version will be out on the 12th. I'll personally be waiting until I can afford the Wii and get it then.
Me, I'm a computer gamer. I spend lots of money on great PC hardware. However, there are always a few console games I really want to play. Wind Waker and the Resident Evil remakes are two of them. My plan? Wait until the Wii is out (which it is now, apparently) and buy a Gamecube on eBay. Why not? If I cared about the bestest graphics for my console, I wouldn't be buying a Nintendo anyway.
It's hard to find anything associated with the world's crappiest, most overrated soft core empire "respectable."
Me, I couldn't really care less about the Playboy Mansion. But like it or not, a great many people find Playboy sophisticated and respectable. Ever hear of "I read it for the articles"?
I suppose it's just a matter of what I'm used to, but I don't feel comfy in this app.
1) If you maximize the window, it covers the task bar. It has a fullscreen mode; why does it have to do this? Being able to see the task bar is one of the only reasons I/wouldn't/ want to be playing a video fullscreen. 2) I've yet to find a way to close the channel guide on the left. It takes up valuable screen real estate. 3) In Media Player Classic, if you click on the video it stops of pauses. If you double click, it enters/exits fullscreen. I'm used to it.
That's just how I feel, in case anyone cares. I guess I'll stick with MPC, though I seriously hate how it steals input from the volume not on my keyboard away from Windows, making it change the video volume rather than system volume. Hate it, hate it.
F you're recording for use on your home stero system and IF you have decent speakers
Or headphones. A good (say, $80+) pair of headphones is better than the best stereo system, if you don't care about 3D sound or the feel of the vibrations. I tend not to listen to music any other way.
You're insane. I'm often able to guess the general bitrate just by listening. 128kbps sounds very different from 192kbps. And there's a big difference between 192kpbs and 320kpbs or a high variable bitrate. Now, play me a 320kpbs joint audio MP3 encoded by lame and the original lossless file, and the odds are I won't be able to tell the difference. Sometimes, though, you can. This goes for alot of heavy metal or classical, where there's a great range of tones. Also, you hear music much more clearly in a good pair of earphones. Personally, I find it as hard to believe that you can't tell the difference between 192kpbs and WAV as you do that I can, so I guess we're even. Maybe your headphones/speakers just suck.
Can you show me how anyone has control of that country and it's "oil"
No, I can't. I wrote two sentences, and you couldn't even read #2?
instead of just parroting left-wing talking points like a complete tool?
Okay, let's try an old Bush administration "talking point": It was publicly and openly stated before the war that, after we destroyed their country, we were going to take their oil in "exchange" for rebuilding it.
Give people the tools to make their own changes, instead of forcing change on them.
I'll probably get punished with modding down for pointing out the truth, but how would that have got us control of the country and its oil? Not that the way we tried worked either.
If someone wrote a new, modern-day epic like the Odyssey, what are the odds that the "explicit" content would be viewed as acceptable for minors? No, guess again. Lower. Lower. Right, zero.
Just sayin'. I'm glad it was overturned, and in fact I oppose all sexual/violent content bans of any sort on any kind of media, for adults or kids. I'm not outright encouraging its consumption, but I've yet to hear anyone explain why kids would be harmed by, say, pornography. It seems like an assumption everyone takes for granted, even social liberals.
Uh, but I forgot my point. Oh, right... The Mainstream doesn't allow video games to be viewed as art. Some day this will change.
STFU about Linux not infringing on Microsoft's patents.
I've got a better idea. How about you STFU about Linux infringing on MS patents until you "go over to one of the many patent registry websites and search for Microsoft patents and post one or two that Linux violates" like you promised?

Never trust lithium. I took it for years and my brain NEVER worked. I wish I was joking.
They have football in England now?!
Actually, I think the hawks are the only ones not thinking that.
Exactly! I apologize for having nothing to add, but that's exactly what I thought when I read the article (okay, summary).

My point was the price. I'd rather spend hundreds of dollars on more RAM.
But don't forget that you're also "casting your vote" for Norah Jones.

In soviet China .*
You fool! From this day forward, every other Slashdot article will be given that tag by Slashdotters who like to bitch about their favorite site.

Oh for the love of God, someone please give me this test. I'd love to take it.
Anyhow, have any links?

Nike can also be used to help you beat up Persians.

Actually, that's a good question. I don't recall ever hearing someone say that.
who the holy hell moderated this as "flamebait"?
