Oman. When I saw the story, Iran to the comment section. It's probably safe Tibet that this is just Microsoft spreading FUD. Someone should Czech their facts. After the recent kernel patch, someone's feeling they got Egypt in the media and this is a way to Greece the news media. Microsoft is just Hungary for more anti-linux coverage. Kinda surprised that there's not more Haiti for this article.
The icon of Bill with the implants... Luxem of Bourg. Resistance is futile.
Ok. That was a bit of a stretch. But Kenya tell I was actually trying?
I'm going to stop, now. Uganda spect me to get many more than this. Zaire can't be too many more.
Of course he does. We all knew he was married.... It was inevitable that at some point, he'd interface with his wife and do some sort of dump. Now he has uncontrollable child processes around that he won't be able to control.... typical MS product.
I seem to recall when one of the complaints against the government in this country was the government's ability to search anything they wanted without prior permission or notification. We kicked them Brits out 200+ years ago. What stupid ass thought it'd be smart to start doing this again?
I, for one, am sick and tired of my civil liberties being destroyed for the sake of anti-terrorism. Why is it a good idea to let my doctor fork over records to the gov't and make it illegal to tell me about it? We all know that the systems out there get exploited. What'll happen next? You go to your doctor and get put on an anti-depressant... 10 years later, you apply for a gov't job, they pull your medical records, and you get denied the job because you were once a "psycho" on anti-depressants?
I'll gladly vote against anyone that's for this anti-rights bullshit
I can see it now. A robot that will automatically download updates to itself nightly. It'll be managing my conference call for me and suddenly the phone will go dead with an operating telling me "General Protection Fault. A fatal exception has occured in module robot.dll. You're fucked."
Wonder if it'll have gaping holes in its structure to signify the gapin holes in its underlying OS.
Heh. We used to say "First we got Les, then we just got Dicked." That, and anytime someone mentioned the word "bonus," we'd reply with "No no no. You mean Bone-Us.

OMG! I just spit DrPepper at my laptop. While I've been reading this, I couldn't help but think, "Wow. That sounds like the shit I put up with at EDS." Then times got really tough and they laid me off. Then contested the unemployment. Then kicked the CEO in the ass and paid him 38M on the way out. . . And they somehow saved money by laying off a 38k/year network admin? Way to go, management!
My advice rides with many others'... Find a new job, tell them you can start on the following Monday and Friday evening, tell your current boss to dig in... cause he's got to fill your shoes immediately.
Unemployment sucks. You learn to despise ramen noodles and PB&J. I recommend against going jobless for the sake of the bit..|.., to the company.
We use a couple conventions depending on the customer... 2- country 2- city 1- server type 4- group designation 3- number> for example: ustrdgscm001 (US, Troy, Domain controller, group-name, servernumber) We also deal with it by subdomains... server.SSCCC.cc.company.com where SS is state/province, CC is the city, cc is the country. But that's just us.
At home, I do mythology. linux=roman, win=greek, *bsd=egyptian.
Let me be the first to say "piss off." I was relaying info that was given to me.
If that makes me a fucking retard, the so be it. I guess I'm not r337 enough to hide in the shadows and troll like most of the fucking rejects that hang out here. Excuse me for attempting to contribute some information to a community that thrives on info.
On a personal note... Take your condescending attitude and shove it up your overstretched asshole, you fucking waste of skin.
Excite@home has signed agreements with 12 cable companies (including cox, rogers, comcast, et al) to continue service for a short while. AT&T@home users. You got shut down Sunday. Sucks to be you.
I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with Gary on Sunday. Gary, an @home phone dude, was very helpful and answered EVERY question I flung at him.
Here's the low-down:
** Comcast recently bought-out MediaOne. Comcast is in the process of converting the C@H network over to the MediaOne infrastructure. This would mean that your domain name (computer-wise) would change. Your IP address would change (more later). Your e-mail address will change (domain not known yet).
** IP wise... the current C@H setup is that you set your computer-name to something they force down your throat. You set up for dhcp. You get a static IP assigned from THEIR end. The only thing that's going to change is that you can set the hostname to anything you like.
** Your IP address will change from a 24/8 to a 64/8... No big deal, really. Just make sure you change your service records and such (if necessary) on your DNS servers.
** This whole process should be taking place over the NEXT 2 WEEKS! During that time, there will be a semi-scheduled downtime at which time C@H will be switching you from @HOME to @Comcast-whatever.
** There's a hotline you can call for status checks. I am a dumbass and didn't bring that number to work with me.
I hang out with the other sys admins that work in our little corner of the company. We usually organize an "off-site admin meeting" in which we go to a local mall, have lunch, take in a movie, and throw in the obligatory "So. Are the servers up?" "yeah." "Ok. Meeting over. On to 'team building.'"
We also get together during the summer with our families (we all have very young children) and let the kids beat on^H^H^H^H^H^Hplay with each other.
And when someone needs a hand with something like moving, an extra set of hands wiring a house for network connectivity, they're always there.

"[Richard Nixon was] not a crook," according to his famous soundbite.
AMD is scheduled to release its 760 chipset sometime in December or January. This chipset will support SocketA. EXISTING durons and t-birds will run on it. The great thing is... the chipset will FINALLY support SMP. WOOHOO!
I, personally, like optimizing my system for speed. I installed pgcc and optimized it with:
CFLAGS=-march=k6 -O2
I download the source with apt-get, edit the rules and makefiles, then build from the source, optimizing for my particular cpu. X, while taking forever to compile, runs about 40% faster compiled against a k6, than it does compiled for the i386.
Read your new license agreement. It states in there that running http or ftp services on your computer can have an impact on your transfer rates while browsing or performing other operations. Also, it says something in there that basically says "If you run a chat server, we won't support it, either." This is the part that mentions what services are available...
The PCI card that was mentioned (as is) will NOT run the new client. Seti will be accepting packets from old clients for a while. The company producing the card WILL be providing a firmware (BIOS) update for the card that will allow it to use later clients. There is not a release date for it, as the client hasn't been officially released, yet. (Go to the FAQ linked from their page for this info)
I work as a sysadmin for EDS (Electronic Data Systems). We got hit by this thing this morning. EDS's solution was pretty harsh. Any e-mail over 10k is getting deleted. Any attachment that pushes a message over 10k is being deleted. Any account sending ANY.vbs file is getting deactivated.
This damn thing brought down 3 mail servers, and a handful of other servers.
It's nice to know that something like a mail message can cripple an organization like EDS.
Am I the only person that's sick of seeing and hearing all of this under-educated anti-OSS bullsh*t? Sure, it has its downsides. But there are SO many people that are flying off the cuff, trying to give it a bad rep. If you want to TRY to argue against open-source, go right ahead. Just pull your head out of your ass and get your facts straight BEFORE you speak. Good job, Bob.
Yes. I do think this is going too far. Does this mean that referring to the coal product as "coke" is violating their trademark. Do we start picking up the "don't do drugs" campaigns for using the term "coke" in regards to cocaine?
Seems to me that these companies need to realize that they don't OWN the internet. Rather, they participate in it. This being the case... LAY OFF!
(And, now I get an error submitting? Maybe Coca-Cola is already throwing their weight around, because I don't have permission to use the "Coke" trademark? )

But.... it'd have to make it through the supreme court (something that's SURE to happen), where it would probably be deemed unconstitutional.

I'd be interested to know where he goes from here. The Ultima series was/is GREAT. I'd like to get my hands on his next project.

Give me magnets, or give me death!
