I was always fond of the bug in the Apple ][ version of Taipan that let you overpay a loan which would turn it into a negative loan that would grow more negative as the game went on. You could then borrow against this negative amount. With the usury rates on loans in the game, it was effectively an ultra-high interest savings account.
There is a forum called "The TV IV" on the Something Awful forums. (It's "IV" as in "intravenous", i.e. getting our TV "fix".) This is where the idea to create this was born. We initially were thinking of a site to store info on the shows we like, but then we decided that if we invited others, we might be able to build something really good.
As a side-note: anyone have use for the wikiepguide.com domain I registered?
We've had some early discussion about changing the name of the site, so we might have a use for that URL. We recognize that affiliation with SA might scare some people away.
As for the MS Hate talk:
While Slashdot is website built for a community -the boring, redundant "M$ Sucks, M$ is Evil" rhetoric gets really boring, redundant and repetitive. Yes everyone has an opinon but the "Me too!" posts suck - Everyone knows you hate them so shut up already.
We are only looking at GnuPG for server-based command-line file encryption. We already use NAI's PGP for desktop/e-mail encryption. The premium they want for basicly the same product on a server is, IMO, ridiculous.
Just thought you/.ers might want an update on my progress. I've written a document selling the idea. My boss likes it and now it goes up a level. If she likes the idea, GnuPG is in.
Will popular syndicated talk shows be carried on satellite? Like Howard Stern, Mancow, Don Imus, Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, Tom Leykis, etc. This would be a make-or-break for me.
(I'm not endorsing any of the above hosts. In fact, I despise two of them. You can guess which ones...)
The string in question was 42424242 which only occurs 242422 if you count as the Pi-Search Page counts. If the string was 424242, you would be correct.
Sounds a lot like the old Northgate Omnikey keyboards that were hot 10-15 years ago. Big L-shaped Enter, function keys duplicated on left, etc. A Google search turned up quite a bit of info. Some places sell these things for $189! Yikes! I think I have one of these in the deep dark recesses of my basement. Maybe I should dig it out.
I've had a computer in my home since I was about 13 years old. (An Apple//e!) If grades and IQ tests are accurate measurements, I'm rather smart. I tended to use the computer (and the places it lead me to, BBS's and later the Internet) as much for knowledge gathering as for entertainment. In that way, computers made me smarter.
But I tend to believe that I used it to gather knowledge rather than entertain because I was smart. Dumb kids will use computers for dumb proposes. (e.g. games and pr0n) So computers make kids dumber or smarter depending on the kid.
The easiest way for America to change over is to change what is taught in schools first, then start placing both types of units on consumer products. When that generation has grown up, there will be no need for the old units and they can be dropped.
I was taught the Metric system in school, and every consumer product already has both units. Now I'm grown up, let's get rid of the old units! Oh, wait... What about the Baby Boomers? Oh, well, they'll adjust...
Hmmm. SourceForge forced a password reset last week citing "changes to how we're storing user passwords." Coincidence?

We would love it if the site became a multi-national resource. We just need multi-national editors.
I'm one of the site admins, and I wouldn't say the license is set in stone. We would welcome any discussions like this that may improve the site.
Yes, but what about "Castle Smurfenstein"? I was a hack of Wolfenstein that replaced the Nazis with Smurfs. La-la-la-la-la... BLAM!

Who's redundant again?
Funny, but since they are only selling "excerpts," i.e. just the URLs, it would probably be considered "fair use."

MODERATORS: MOD THE PARENT UP!
BTW, Comcast's Connection Backup Program is nothing but NetZero. Too bad that won't work with my SMC router. (which does support dial-up)
How about buying it so you can play your PSX library on a laptop on a plane?
...and we *still* can't get our hands on either the PS2 port *or* the XBox port. This kind of tease is just plain cruel.
Did anyone warn Wil of the consequences of accepting an interview request from Slashdot?
Don't waste our time with questions that are already answered in Wil's FAQ.

Bzzt! Wrong.

And through all of this, Microsoft comes of looking like the poor victim, instead of the purveyor of swiss cheese software.
It's probably the same miraclulous software that tracks how many times an e-mail is forwarded, so nickels can be donated to charity.

Uh, that's not how the date line works. Australia is usually a day ahead of the US.
From http://www.nasm.edu/apollo/AS11/a11facts.htm:
Landed on Moon: July 20, 1969 20:17:40 UT (4:17:40 p.m. EDT)
First step: 02:56:15 UT July 21, 1969 (10:56:15 p.m. EDT July 20, 1969)
That means it was July 21, 1969 in Australia when man first set foot on the moon. So that date is off by two days.
Duh.
