friend and I were diagnosing aunt's PC that wouldn't POST (had just changed MB/CPU/mem 3 months ago because it had popped some famous capacitors). He reaches into computer desk to hold it up and disconnect the cables so that we can pull it out. Drops it. I yell at him "why the hell did you drop it?!?!" He says "because it just shocked the crap out of me!".

Into the garbage with that power supply. New power supply in, pc works great. New parts not fried (luckily). My jaw not broken (luckily).

    you are wrong.

MS's OEM license agreement for OEM software marries that license to the hardware. you are not legally allowed to move it to another computer even if you delete it off the old one.

MS sells the OEM licenses at very cheap prices to the OEM's, and that's part of the restriction, you pay less (typically 50-70) for a license, instead of $150-200, but it is married to that system and is thrown out with the hardware.

I've been to many MS licensing classes, trust me. It's a very common misconception.

I've seen someone use it, and it works really well. it also has links for other artists that are similar, and some history and info on each artist. It's not perfect selection, but pretty darned good, and it's legal AFAIK.

While it would create some more traffic before someone is added to the whitelist, my understanding is that once someone is on the list, they will not get challenge/response emails at all.

Maybe you could implement a very loose filter around your whitelist filter?

    for instance, mail comes in

10 Is it on the whitelist of senders? If yes go to 40
20 Does it pass the RBL (or other "loose" filter) if yes, go to 30 if NO, then delete (or xfer to a SPAM folder if you want to insure no false positives
30 Send challenge email to sender letting them know that their message will not be read until they authenticate themselves
    40 XFER mail to inbox

Yes, i'm not a programmer, but I think the logical flow of this would eliminate false positives and allow most mail to flow quickly and freely without a lot of bounced authentication challenge emails.

I agree with some of your points. but your paragraph about "too much debt" i believe is wrong. I think it's fine to have credit available and to use credit where it makes sense. BUT, i don't believe that you should take a loan out for a $40K car if you can't pay it off in 1-2 years and for gosh sakes, don't get two car loans and 20K in consumer debt going just to live a lifestyle. You can live a way, way better lifestyle if you will just wait for 1 year on all those purchases, then you can pay cash for them and have all that discretionary money to do what you like with.

Case in point. I use dto make about $40K, then I made $175K. Did I raise my "standard of living"? Not really. I put some money away, paid off the little debt I had. Put a chunk of money towards principle on the house, and THEN paid cash for my used BMW. But, if I had bought things the year before, I would have wasted $5K in interest just to "have" something a year sooner. that's foolish and will bit you. Now I'm unemployed, but everything is paid off and while it's taken me some time to find a job, I have the finances to weather the extended unemployement I've been on without going in to debt.

I know it's tough for people with families (which I don't have), but seriously, people are too dependant on debt.
