That may depend on what continent you are on. ere in Europe, the mixup is apparent even in professional sales literature for everthing from VCR's to Televisions.
Don't get any hits on FFT - are you thinking of TFT-LCD's?

  2. Terminology on Indiglo Clock Case Mod · · Score: 3, Informative

It's not called 'Indiglo (tm)'. The technical term is 'high voltage fluorescence'. 'Indiglo (tm)' is something Timex (I think) called it when they started using it for wrist watches and the like. Bugs me as much as hearing the term 'S-VHS' when people refer to the video format 'S-VIDEO' (separated chrominance/luminance).
Important? Hardly. Important to me? Oh, yes!

No actually - it is this guy who HAS a life, who can take the time to enjoy a great hobby etc. If you don't have a couple of hours a day to mess with a great project like this (due to cubicle work for example), then you don't have a life. What's the meaning of life, anyway?

How silly! "Open your minds" indeed...
Now, there's no way of telling if the happenings in the above rant is due to some 'divine' will. I am convinced that there are more mechanisms involved than we have been able to chart out. We may only have scratched the surface of what space/time/dimensions/energy/light/gravity etc. is all about. It may make perfect sense some time in the future, or it may not. A common thread in all civilisations from as far back as we know seem to be the need to explain the unexplicable by referring to some god-person or similar. It gives us the security that we need. The constructed idea-framework that religions provide gives many a peace of mind that I personally envy them sometimes. However, it seems very clear to me (as can be explained by the nature of the human mind) that it is just that - a constructed framework of ideas.

Unfortunately, we had the same experience with UPS. Shipped a 17 inch montor from Virginia to Vancouver for a 2-day tradeshow. Packed it in several layers of bubble-wrap and carton. Then it arrived, it was thoroughly smashed. Case was in 4 pieces, pcb was cracked, and tube was gone. No excuses from UPS. Just another story...

  8. Re:All info on the Apple's site on Apple releases iPod · · Score: 1

The specs on Apple's web lists the device as handling bitrates between 32kb/s and 320 kb/s. Fine for music, but my main use of the old Nomad-or-whatever was to listen to otr drama or recorded talkshows at lower resolution than 32kb/s. Will it not handle, let's say, 8 kb/s? Anyone got any practical experience yet, or is it too early?

I spent one year in the US on an H1B, doing work for my company which is European based. To make me even concider staying in the US, I would have needed assurances that it would be possible to convert the H1B into something permanent (for me and my wife). IT people are scarce everywhere, and I hurried back to my home country to get a house and settle down (salaries are good here as well). AND, with the bandwidth available, I can do consulting work for US companies from my laptop anywhere.
