    And I was just replying to the "For anyone that works with livestock, having long guns mounted in vehicles and handguns on one's person is absolutely normal, routine, and safe." comment, that it in fact isn't that common to have a firearm on/with you even if you work on a ranch/farm. Yes, guns are tools, but no, not everyone is carrying a six shooter or rifle/shotgun on them all the time. Only when they see a specific use for it.

    (And this is of course in the old world, you settlers may of course have other practices, with the wolves and injuns and all that :-P)

    yah, well my excuse is, that I'm not a native english speaker, so I'm not sure of the correct terms, sorry about that. Anyhow, I'm talking of a place with cows and horses and some smaller animals. But still, no guns in sight. You people watch too much Bonanza or some such :-P

    For anyone that works with livestock, having long guns mounted in vehicles and handguns on one's person is absolutely normal, routine, and safe. Um.. I do occasional tech stuff on a farm and not ever have I seen any of the staff carry any kind of firearm.

    Just saying, since you make it sound like every one working with animals is armed to the teeth.

    How do you know there is no "Meg White sex tape"? Because Meg White doesn't have sex? Or she is incapable of using video camera? Or are you Meg White, so you can state with out a doubt that you just haven't made one? If one isn't at large on teh Net, it still doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

    Well, no, I can't download the free Flex compiler, because I run Linux, and it's not available on Linux. I actually spent some time on Adobe's web site just now trying to find out what was actually available. I couldn't find any link from http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/ to any "free command-line Flex compiler" at all, just links to a demo version, and a version that costs money Did you even read past the first link in that 'download now' box? The second link says 'Use the Flex 2 SDK to build and deploy Flex apps for free'. All the links point to the same page which offers all the downloads for the demo builder and the free SDK and some other stuff to use for fun and profit.

    And I use Linux, and I did download the free SDK, and it did compile all the example apps without a problem.
    And you need a recent Java runtime to use it :-)

    And at appropriate times the glasses, hats etc. come off to help player to show 'concerned' as part of a bluff.
    So it is part of the game to 'loose' your pokerface as much it is to keep it. (This of course can not be too obviously used, but at right hands is effective part of the game.)
    Therefore I don't think that any top pros use toxins to paralyse their facial muscles.

    (But since I'm not a pro player I cannot be sure, this opinion is based solely on TV.)

    Most likely none, since most of the 'tells' are much more than mere grins or lifted eyebrows.
    As all games, poker requires skill, experience and of course some luck at times.
    But mostly poker (live especially) is about playing your opponent. What you think his hand is, what he thinks your hand is, what you think he thinks your hand is etc.

    That's exactly the point of these DRM schemes. Of course it won't prevent *all* copyright infringement or whatever other bulls#$t restrictions they have in mind. But it will make it difficult for the average user.

    Until someone come out with a one click solution for copying like has happened with DVDs.

    But isn't 'one-click-solution' patented by Amazon?

    You misspelled 'invasion of privacy'. I always thought 'innocent until proven guilty' was somewhat dominant idea of US justice system. Obviously I was wrong.
    If you actually justify spying of people by the fact that some of them are (or may be) criminals you are stating, that all of them are guilty of a crime, until proven innocent.

    I agree that TCO will be higher, primarily because most linux programs require a lot more user support than your average windows program, installed and patched with "software wizards". If you're a user installing openoffice and you don't have a certain library, or you have an outdated one, you're going to spend a lot of time learning about ldd and ldconfig.

    Isn't this what the IT department is for? To make sure the software is installed and patched properly? Just as it's supposed to be with Windows.

    Yet you assume that Chirac not attending the funeral was him "Sending message that he didnt like the united states". In any case, perhaps he doesnt, and would be within his rights not to. His descion to attend a man's funeral should be based on his relationship with the man not the state.

    Responding to an invitation is common courtesy. If a states head is unable to attend, he/she should at least send a representative to the event. This is just rude.

    Hm.. since I don't use XP I really couldn't answer this one. But no kernel panics here yet.

    Hm.. that depends, sometimes I get my favourite desktop fully configured and with all *MY* settings and stuff with a simple reboot. I just take my Knoppix-cd and boot the damn thing with it. Of course it takes some time to compile your custom cd, but I think it's worth the effort.

    I've been told by the MS-zealots, that the problem isn't really Outlook, but Outlook Express. And from what I've heard it does come with default installation and it's next to impossible to get rid of.
    (Of course I might be wrong.)

    But since the article was about migrating away from Windows, I'd think there has been other reasons for the change than just coolness factor.

    Hm.. one everyday use for one time pads is network banking, and it works for me. Admittedly it has it's flaws and problems (mostly in the logistics department ), but it is quite useful and works for me and thousands of other customers.
