Actually, Methanol/Water Injection on Diesel engines is like NOS on a gasser. The Methanol does make the diesel burn cleaner like the hydrogen in this article, and the water cools the EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temp) enough to keep everything from melting down. Virtually all race cars run on Methanol too.

You know, I realize you mean to be joking, but to an extent this is already the truth. When you take a picture of a building, the owner of the building holds the copyright on the image as they can claim their building is a form of art. You have the right to take these pictures, but if you publish them you're guilty of copyright infringement (or as the media likes to put it, theft). In France you can take a picture of the Iffel tower during the day, but the electric company claims copyright on the lighting so you cannot publish pictures taken at night. Just like as there are model release forms to give you rights to publish pictures of people, there are property release forms for buildings. Just try and get a corporation to sign one of these!

  18. Biodiesel vs the SVO systems on Run Your Car on Grease · · Score: 2, Informative

This is not biodiesel. Biodiesel will run in any diesel engine w/o modifications. Most of the diesel sold in Europe is or contains biodiesel. Biodiesel is made by taking oil (such as used veggie oil) and mixing it with sodium methydroxide (Lye and Menthanol). The glycerine seperates out and what is left (minus more filtering, called "washing") is biodiesel.

This is often refered to as "SVO" - Straight Vegetable Oil. The Gresel system requires two tanks for starting and stopping on regular diesel. I've seen systems that do not require any diesel. They (simply) involve:
    1. Replacing the injectors with ones that have a larger bore.
    2. Changing the thermostat to one that stays on to a higher temperatature
    3. Replacing the glow plugs with heavier duty ones
    4. Installing an electric fuel line heater
    5. Installing a heat exchanger

When the engine is cold the electric heater warms the fuel, allowing it to flow through the injectors properly. Once the engine heats up the thermostat shuts off which turns off the electric fuel line heater and the glow plugs. By then the heat exchanger uses the heat from the engine coolant to keep the fuel visocity low. I believe the main difference between this system and what gresel offers is the electric fuel line heater. Once you do the changeover you can still run off of diesel, but you're going to be dumping more fuel in the engine (larger injectors) so your horsepower will go up and your milage down.

The RIAA is very upset that CD's last so much longer than LPs. They've tried to block the resale of used CDs.

They've come up with a solution to this. They corrupt the error correction on a CD and claim they are doing it for copy protection. The end result (a few years from now) is people will learn that CD's (music frisbees) are not that reliable and they shouldn't buy a CD like disk from the used store because it probably won't play right.

My logic on CD like music frisbees is that they will promote higher quality trading of music. If joe sixpack can't rip an album, then it will be done by some 133t kid smart enough to use LAME and not Xing. The newer P2P systems use hashes to identify content, so the fewer unique mp3's of any song floating around the easier it will be to locate a good copy. Yes, there is a huge difference in quality of encoders. A few years ago I ran some tests at lower bit rates and found Franhoffer (not as good as LAME now) to sound better at 32k than a different encoder (I forget which) at 64k. One of the main reasons I don't use P2P is the [lack of] quality of the mp3's.

If a typical Motorcycle (4 cycle) averages an average gear ratio of 1.5:1 and gets about 30K miles before it's rebuild time, that would factor out to about 450 miles before a rebuild. While a 2 stroke engine is almost as durable as a 4 stroke, the small size will decrease it's lifespan by a significent margin compared to a larger (ie 600cc) 4 stroke... I doubt you would get much more than 300 miles out of one of these little engines.
