    Taking off one layer of tissue at a time to expose the neural net is a bit caustic. Maybe a method should be considered where the host is left functionally intact? Also, in order to "map" a human brain, one is going to need something on the order of about 2 to 4 peta bytes of storage, minimum. It is wonderful that we are heading in the direction of "downloading" our brains. I can see a time when forgetting the wife's birthday will become a footnote in the history books.

    From a Health Care, and Insurance Industry perspective, cloning has some very nice side benefits. If these two industries clients continue to grow and make new clients, then the monthly financial outcome will only grow bigger. When even the most stubborn of surviving detractors notice that their numbers are monotonically diminishing, then this "Moral Issue" will dissolve. I think a simple poll of anyone who has had an Organ failure, a limb lost, or an incurable illness, will, to a person, accept a cloned replacement part; Without hesitation. What a blessing it would be if your body was destroyed by some tragic event, and all you lost was a day's work, or day's vacation.

    Take a phone, stick in a 16gig ram chip; And you have a development environment that you can take anywhere. The Boss says, "Oh no! do not plug that thing into our network!", you say, "OK", and then email the solution to the boss, and yourself. Open platform implies that the bad guys can do some goofy things. But it also means that salvation is only a /. away. There is one problem, and that is time in between charges. Maybe a Solar Powered Charger, and I can finally develop,(software), at the beach! (memo to self, get the water proof gPhone)

    An amazing read. Does the U.O. have a Pre-Vet program there? If so, I think my eldest would get a better education there. I find myself troubled by schools that prefer to chant the current party line as opposed to using thought and reasoning. Thought and reasoning are not always the optimal course of action, but it is a better action than one that requires switching off the brain in order to perform.

    I could not help but think that if a machine existed today that had molecular, or preferable, subatomic replication capabilities; we would have one critical thing missing. We have many pictures of finished products, but there is no collection of instructions on "how" to manufacture things or what these things are made of. Maybe it is time to start considering the need for a Wiki on how things are made, and what they are made of.

    An Operating system, (O/S), is not the requirement to download a file that is in a certain format. All current Linux, MacIntosh, Unix, and Microsoft O/S's have the ability to Download a file. These current O/S's can all execute "Multimedia" programs. Certain programs can only execute on a limited set of O/S's; But, there are Multimedia programs that can work on ALL of the above stated O/S's, and many other O/S's not stated. Clearly, access to only a few people, was the intent of the final decision maker in this case.

    Just a thought. In considering the economics of ion drives and weightlessness, wouldn't it be more useful to have "Space Tugs" remove the containers from the ribbon? That way more containers could be put into the rotation for elevator access. Also, Mr. Clark suggested embedding an electrical conduit in the ribbon; It still makes sense today.

Maybe these "Hackers" can tell us more of the inner workings of the iPhone, so as to help us understand more.     The overall evaluation of the 3D packages using a Benjamin Franklin approach is a direction that I wish others would consider when evaluating software. I have tried it with openOffice, and MS's Office, this solution is mind vortex, but informative when comparing functionality. If I know how to do "X" in one package, then this table by TDT COULD show me how to do it in Blender; Bravo!

    Funny you should mention it not being important about Booting Up. A casual read on the box suggests that Microsoft can not be held responsible if Vista does NOT boot up, and that is on a "Vista Approved" machine.

    I think Carl Sagon said it best, "Take Baby Steps." At first look, FF code looks like a challange. But after awhile, one can begin to see the inner workings, and then begin to understand. I do not believe that anyone that worked on FF will be invited to go to Stockholm to collect a prize. And when one reads the personal comments of minor contributions to FF, one begins to get the concept that there just might be a solution that an "Average Joe" can submit. I applaud all the people who have made open source solutions.

    After reading the threads, and noting the reactions, one has to consider the "Source". The difference between Close Sores, and Open Sores is that when you feel compelled to squawk, you can do something about it with Open Sores; But with Closed Sours You cannot. Try it with Microsoft, ask them to add the puny coding it would take to bring Internet Exploder up to CSS 2.0, or XSLT to 2.0, how about SVG 2.0 handling? But with an Open Sores solution, if you do not like it, you can change it, NOW! Maybe the submitter of the Parent Article could tackle the Memory Leaks of FF?
