    My first thought was, "You use Microsoft." AJAX is HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, and XLST. One can throw in a sprinkle of "XMLHttpRequest "; But by appling KISS, one will find XMLHttpRequest is at best, redundent. The reader should at this point start to notice that this is all Client Side handling; Basically, the Server spoon feeds the Client. If one ponders how to talk to the Server, consider the POST, and GET options for a <form ...> tag? If one wonders about those who would listen, consider the use of the HTTPS protocol.

    As for the Server side of this reply, consider the following quote, "Regular Expression Your Inputs, Build Your Outputs."

    If one needs Security solutions; Is buying from a Marketing company the best merchant?

    I've seen alot from Microsoft about security problems with AJAX; But no examples. Without examples to support these concerns, this is FUD.

    CVS and Latex have been around far to long to be ignored by even the most casual of PHB's. The Parent states, "...we developers would like to see high-quality end products..."; It's at this point that I question the sinsarity of the author. My favorite handling of these types is to sit down with them and story board out their realites. After about 5 minutes their eyes stop functioning, and their brains weep for caos. All this, and they pay me to do it to them!

    Given that your class is one quarter, or one semester; You can either teach the best use of an IDE, or the fundamental syntax of the language. Of course, one could review what one was hired to do? Another argument is that IDE's come an go with the tide. Fundatmentals of software engineering are fairly persistant. Constructively speaking, maybe one should teach how to apply software engineering fundamentals using a given language syntax.

    The parent post should be rated funny, not informative. A simple argument desolves the foundation of the parent's thesis; "Are resources cheaper today than yesterday?" This planet, and its resources are fixed quanities; And they grow smaller everyday. There is a cost for this shrikage, waiting around does not reduce this cost.

    Ya, I find it interesting. I stubbled onto a Wiki page that read more like a Crippleware(tm) infomercial than a fact based description about the topic. I guess what slowed me up was that I'm reading about what a faceless corperation did after the fact; NOT what the topic was about. The last time I checked, faceless corperations exist only on paper; As a way to shield investors from law suits. I'm wondering if maybe introducing a tag like, />, instead of the faceless corperation's name would allow the editing of Wiki content to be more informative. Or one could use the tried and true concept of a "Foot Note". And, if said faceless corperation were to have its own page of triumphs, under its faceless name; It could. Then, "It", could have a foot note to the topic.

    AJAX, for me, is very simple to understand. I just don't see the need for complexity. Consider the following reasons.

    I find that using HTML with CSS to be simple.

    I find that using HTML, CSS, with javascript to be simple

    I find that using HTML, CSS, javascript, XML, XSLT to be simple.

    I find that using HTML, CSS, javascript, XML, XSLT, "Server Side Language that Handles WebServices", XSD to be simple.

    I find that using HTML, CSS, XML, XSLT, "Server Side Language that Handles WebServices", XSD to be simple.

    On should notice that at this point that javascript is purly optional. Consider the argument that one can use javascript as a crutch until one is more familiar with XML. Also, javascript could be used to help the User with various edit checkings.

    This is not meant to make small these framework developer's creativities, I'm just not seeing the need for complexity of using Java or Microsoft Frameworks for what can easily be done by using Notepad/vi. My webservice language of choice is PERL; But PHP, C#, Ruby, VB, Python, any language that could do the job of web services would work just as well.

    My point is, these frameworks look like a laced version of "Bloat".

    Let us examine the "slow growth" of going to the moon. Ummmmmmmm, nothing in the last 35+ years. Any slower, and humanity evolve to the next higher order thus making NASA obsolete. Now I understand GWB's plan!
