Based on what I've observed with the RIAA, nope, your 100 legally purchased songs would mean squat, even if you only have one measly pirated song if they come prosecuting your ass.

Though... the numbers would be valuable to them to conjure up those screwed over statistics of theirs. Not to mention some purrty, colorful pie-graphs for lobbying.

Being open source, who could even restrict it's usage? Well, we can bitch all we want if open-source is used for "controversial" issues, but that just says that open source is not that open at all. So do we start putting in "fine print (tm)" with the GPL licensing?

Worse case scenario in history. What do you think Einstein went through when other people expounded on his work and eventually created the nuclear bomb? He didn't like it one bit but there you go...

And I'm thinking it won't be long till a $50 device for spoofing, not just jamming, fake GPS signals. How responsible are we for the things we create?

  13. IDC Report on META Predicts Linux Software From Microsoft in 2004 · · Score: 1

The story on the IDC report cites employees, IT training and outsourced support as the main resource drainers for Linux systems. I'm just wondering why the report gave no mention of productivity losses due to unreliable software? For mission-critical companies, a system crash could make the 11 to 22 percent savings moot in a flash.
