    Ya know, maybe Linux doesn't need to take over the world.

    It's mere viability is enough to keep the close source folks moving forward (?).
    (Parts of) It have moved pretty well into the embedded and phone spaces.
    What Linux needs is hardware support and interoperability.

    Linux doesn't need the Eloi. And they don't need(?) Linux -- they have Winders, Mac, IOS and Android (lol, wat?)

    One thing that was pointed out in the recent memorialization of the the late Steve Jobs was that when he was brought back to Apple, he said "Our product line is to complicated. Let's simplify it - high-end/low-end X desktop/laptop". Seemed to work for them.

    People aren't going to drink RC when they can get Coca-Cola for the same price.
    Note I didn't use the canonical hamburger/steak analogy since branding is a big part of this equation.
    I see no reason why bogging down the hardware with Windows is going to improve their situation. Oh, wait, there's that branding again. Of course, many would see Windows as being a negative brand for something that's specifically intended to not be a desktop.

    Why not just make Chernobyl or Fukushima special nuclear economic development zones? The power coming out of the zone on those transmission lines isn't going to be radioactive.
    Set up a military reservation and let them run breeder reactors. The military prevents proliferation, assuming you have a professional, non-corrupt military.

    What's the worst that can happen? Your "engineers" engage in unauthorized experiments and blow up the reactor? The plant is hit by a 500-year earthquake soon followed by a 500-year tsunami?

    t is subsidized because it has been determined to be beneficial to society as a whole, just like phone service and education.

    I seem to recall hearing something about a few upset people staging sit-ins recently partly as an indirect result of states deciding to de-subsidize higher education.
