is that saying "We do not have reason to believe that there will be a catastrophic earthquake" or "It is not likely that there will be a catastrophic earthquake" is NOT the same as saying "There is no danger of a catastrophic earthquake".

What happened was the scientists came to the former consensus in the meeting, then the politician interpreted it as the latter, and then the politician relayed his version to the people.

IMHO, blaming the scientists is fucking absurd. I think that of the people indicted in this mess, the only one who is at fault is the politician. The most guilty people in this are the idiots who took action concerning their own safety based on their interpretation of what a politician said and against their better instincts.

I think that is a bad analogy. Consider that the afflicted members of these "raped" societies weren't around during said raping. It's like a rape resulting in a child, and then that child never having a normal life because it was the "victim" of rape. Sure, there are arguments that you're mother's inability to live normally due to her torments might have an effect on your upbringing, but throw me a frigging bone here. I'd say cheaper. Also, SR-71 flew much higher and faster than U-2. The article hinted at the U-2 sniffing stuff from the atmosphere. Perhaps SR-71 flies too fast for that. I recall reading something about how the thing was engineered so that it leaked fuel below a certain speed. This is all speculation, but I think that beyond price, U-2 can do things that satalites/SR-71 cannot. Sidenote: can anyone else smell the butt-fury from NG? They're pissed about this.

Would it not have been better to leave his site up? They could have just waited for him to post new links, and then sick ICE on the sources of the allegedly infringing material. They get to boost their stats for number of sites seized when they report to their big media masters, and eventually everyone would realize every site he links to gets shut down. None of his content submitters would want to be next, so they'd stop submitting. No links also means no ad revenue; their problem would just go away.

No, what they're doing here is something far more sinister. They're making an example of this kid, and, more importantly, they're setting a precedent.

Most of the components in my cellular are produced in China. I don't care to dig into the origins of the invention of these components, but I doubt any of them are Israeli. And sharing of military technology is one-sided at best. Especially considering the first item listed under Israeli military equipment in USA use is, in fact, American. I'm not saying the Israelis don't have valuable technology, but we certainly wouldn't be defenseless and in the stone-age without Israeli innovation.
