MHV, that's sheer elitist babbling on your part. Actually worse because it's obvious you're not elite in the least; you've just discovered a few things about words and are showing-off. The holier-than-thouness of the newbie.
But hang on, all is not lost: get a life and pretty soon you'll realize that the world is not the straight-laced, tight-assed prison you wish it to be. That there's give and take. And that understanding is at least as important as form. A form you're wrong about anyway.
Here in San Diego I also use the local telco (Pacbell) and get 128/1500 dsl for 39 a month. The dsl modem was free. Been working great for the past ten months. Nex
Clever, insightful marketing can be a form of enlightenment, if the product itself has intrinsic advantages. Broadband has Obvious advantages.
Laying back and saying the great unwashed will never get it, is an *unwashed* thing to say. It's a cop-out, as well as being arrogant and self-serving, negative and oblivion-oriented. Wake up. Nex
GTs were kewl in 514 - of course different groups of boards would have different GTs - some in the evening at popular watering holes, which are the ones I remember best. By the way, The Walden of 85-93 was not on the list. Sent an email to correct that situation. Wonder why he didn't use Steblublu's Big List?? Nex
Not quite. I get just under 1.5M down (128k up) for $39.95 per month here in San Diego, and my dsl speeds are consistent. I have friends in Montreal who get dsl that averages 1Mbps down only.
There are sites that show the max, average and min of dsl providers across the continent. (I believe dslreports is one, speedguide another)
Apparently our feathered BC friend let his nationalism get the better of his ignorance. Nex
As for actual dsl service, mine here in San Diego is just fine, thank you, and I use Pacbell's dsl, yes indeed. Speed's consistent (1.3Mbps down, 115k up), and I never get thrown off. Mail and news suck so I go elsewhere for that, but if we're talking pure dsl satisfaction, I'm smiling. Nex
I ran a board for 8 years on an old Atari 800 (using Basic XL), and during that time it ran perfectly for *months* between reboots with nary a problem.
Those problems that did occasionally crop-up were usually file-system errors having to do with the floppy drives (file # mismatch etc), and they were rare enough. Nex
Well, not actually, since those places in Canada that you mention are all close to its southern border. If one mentions 'Canada' one need not _necessarily_ mean its more habitable parts. One might be speaking of the entire country in general, meaning that the average temperature and arability might be somewhat less than that of Valleyfield, Vernon, or Moncton. Nex
Funny you should mention that: I saw a ZX/81 (just like my very first machine) in a second-hand store day before yesterday here in San Diego. $16, complete with RF converter and manual, all in a shrink-wrapped box. It was called a Timex, but same machine. If it had sported the 16k ram pack I might have gone for it. (cough). Boy, do we ever get jaded, eh? I'll probably go back tomorrow and snap it up, just for old times sake. Nex
Pressure groups, especially religious right-wing ones - coupled with political behind-door deals made in which the censorship bill got tossed around like a football. Nex
Not lobotomized - more than half his brain's been cut away by the looks of it. His type of marketing shlingo went out of style with the hoola-hoop, when folks became less gullible.
Guilding the lilly? Nah - no matter how much he tries, he can't shine sh*t. Nex
Funny all this hyper-exictement (by Nathan?) about the Apple II Desktop of 1986 (he appends exclamation marks) when both the Amiga (Workbench - 1985) and Atari ST (GEM) GUIs were *already* flying high and were Far superior to what the Apple II Desktop had to offer.
Perhaps he meant 19Seventy6? There's a mistake somewhere - because it didn't smell like sarcasm. Nex

Quite the bumpkin, our MHV. Nex

I gave up in '97. Nex
And Star Trek NG? Every other ep is full of nanothis, and nanothat. Nex

It's already $44 Dollars a month in San Diego and has been for several weeks. Nex
You might consider joining a 12-step program. Nex

Not at all. He hardly uses any. He does make good use of Bold Text. Makes the long piece much clearer, as bold delineates. Nex

- I think lots here would protest that scenario
- age of sexual consent varies from state to state in the US
-earlier age of consent doesn't necessarily make for a freer society. It makes kids freer earlier.

Exactly - a load of crap. In my estimation it ranks way up there in addictions with being Belgian. Nex
