No registry hacking necessary. Just delete the file association. Open any Explorer window. Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Then delete the MP3 one. Voila. No more MP3 associations.
I dunno. Why doesn't Linux handle buffer overflows, also? There are always buffer overflow bugs in various apps, like Apache, the PHP mod, etc. Maybe there's no good way of doing it?
Ignorant? No, I've seen all of those games on TV, etc. I honestly get the creeps when a grown man talks about liking kids' games and predominantly kiddie movies. I'm not suggesting anything. I just think it's creepy, and more than a bit unusual. That's great and all for 18 year old stoners maybe, but a grown man (if the poster really is one) is gonna have a hard time meeting a woman who's ok with someone who plays nothing but Mario games and watches kid's movies. Very hard time.
The original poster was trying to imply that any game with bright, primary colours, or any game with Mario, had to be a kids game. That such games were only of enjoyment to kids. Ludicrous!
I still enjoy video games a lot. Granted, I don't have nearly as much patience for jumping puzzles as I used to (which could also be linked to the greater numbers of games I own;)), but I still enjoy Mario Party 4, Super Monkey Ball, Smash Bros, etc. Games marked as "kiddy" by some. I play the crap out of them until my controllers don't work anymore. Is there something wrong with me? Not at all. I also enjoyed Monsters, Inc -- another "cute" movie which happenened to have depth, and a great execution.
Yes, if you're a grown man, then I *would* say that there is something wrong with you for playing kiddie games and watching kiddie movies. I really hope that you're not "into" little kids, too. A grown man that plays little kids' video games and watches little kids' movies makes me really fucking nervous.
Was the C 64 really around 20 years ago?!? It doesn't seem like that long ago when I was playing Bard's Tale on one. Jesus, 20 years ago, that makes me... oh I'm depressed now.
True, but then you have to factor in the physical cost of these doohickeys, and the support time when one dies, is lost, or malfunctions. I dunno. Seems like it's making things more complicated and expensive for no really good reason. In most businesses, a LOT more time and money can be saved by doing something as simple as making sure that no non-developers or non-admins have full control of their box, limiting the damage they can do. Most companies that I've seen make each user admin of their own box, when really if they're just doing work, they'd never need.
Wow. Instructions on how to view a simple QT clip. Jeez, why didn't anybody tell me that Linux was this simple? Only a dozen or so downloads, move those files around, do some configuring, and in an hour or so, you're there! Wow, this *is* easy! Why would anyone ever want to use Windows when all you have to do is click on a single "OK" to install QT? What fun is that? It's much to easy.
When you stand up, hit ctrl+alt+del. When you sit down, type in your password. I had to do it at one company, and now it's just habit. Not exactly a tough thing to do. I think that these guys are trying to solve a non-problem.
While I really appreciate you pointing this out, there's a much simpler, and much more important way in which Slashdot is anti-OSS. From the most recent 10Q filed by LNUX (Va Software)

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I didn't know there was a time limit. Well, I would know if every credit card didn't come with a 50 page, tiny print contract that you'd need a lawyer to decipher. Next time instead of fighting, I'll contact the CC people *immediately*. I got lucky that one time it happened.
I personally can't believe how many people buy/sell with Net auctions. I *never* use auctions to buy or sell anything that's worth more than say, $50. And if I do buy something, I use my credit card just to be sure. And, in the few times I've used auctions, I did get burned once, and it took me months to get my credit card refunded, which happened just before I lodged a protest with my credit card company. No matter how many systems are implemented, I just think that the idea of buying and selling to unknown individuals that could be anywhere and anybody is an inherently bad idea. I'd much rather pay a bit extra to buy from a known vendor than pay money to an individual. People who use things like eBay heavily do so at their own risk.
Shit, that is so fucking cool. I wish I still had my copy. That was a hell of a game at the time. And, it is even more unbelievable that IBM was selling PC games directly back then, and they even had their own retail stores. I remember going to the IBM stores as a kid to get King's Quest, Flight Simulator (from Microsoft), etc.
Anyone know where I can get a copy of King's Quest? This was one of the first EGA colored games I ever played, and one of the very early adventure games. You had free reign to do anything you wanted (to a certain extent), so this one felt really ground breaking to me. Anyone have a copy of this sucker? I've long since lost the box (actually, this one was distributed in a plastic case for the IBM PCjr by IBM themselves).
Doesn't anybody think that most anime is very fucking wierd? Wierd like, "this is what a 10 year old Japanese girl, or a grown man who'd like to fuck them illegally would like" wierd? Between this article and the one about Nintendo yesterday, I'm starting to get really creeped out by this place. Lots of grown adults enthralled with things meant for little Japanese girls and the men who love them. ugh.
Larry Flynt has been doing this for years. I don't know the last count, but I know that he has gotten at least SEVERAL senators/congressmen to resign. He regularly offers bounties of tens of thousands of dollars for slimy information on slimy politicians. If I were to meet one famous person in my life, it'd be Larry Flynt. That guy's got some huge balls.
Oh, I definitely had trouble collecting when I was workign completely freelance. I had to take a Fortune 500 almost to court to get paid, but luckily my lawyer scared them into paying before it went into a lawsuit. 90% of my time in IT was spent as a W2 employee for various head shops (like Hall Kinion). I didn't have to worry about being paid in those situations. I got paid for the hours I worked, regardless of whether or not the end client paid Hall Kinion, Kelly Tech, Matrix, or whoever I was working for at the time. I made enough money that not only was I able to buy all the toys I wanted, but I was also able to sock away a lot. That's what I used to start my current brink & mortar business. I don't think I would've had nearly enough money if I was just permanent. And yes, I was burned a couple of times as a "perm" employee, and I've known many other people who have been too. It almost always came down to working 60+ hours a week, which of course, on a salary, brings the real hourly wage waaaaay down. Most contracts that I worked on were 3-9 months, with one lasting a full year. As long as I didn't stagnante in my skills, I was always able to pick up another contract, either through my current contracting agency or another one. But ultimately, it was that constant need to run just to stay caught up that completely drove me out of IT. Now the closest that I get to a computer is my POS system at my shop. Talk about burnout!
I dunno about the sex thing. In Vice City, you can pick up ho's on the corner and pay 'em to fuck your brains out. You can also get a "private dance" at the local strip club. There's a good bit of sex in that, and that's gotta be the hottest game on the planet right now. It's definitely my favorite.
I hate these games. I can't believe that nobody else has said this, but I really, really do hate all of those Japanimation kiddie fucking games. They're just "beep beep beep, boop, boop, boop". They make me feel like a hamster reacting to stimuli. They offer no intelligent interaction. They're for nothing than to train reflexes in small mammals. I hate kids. I hate those fucking Nintendo games. I love Vice City. Thank you.
Well, what Javascript exactly is getting fouled up on Mozilla? I'd check myself, but I don't use Mozilla because it's well, slow and clumsy. I'm really curious. Their page is really, really damn simple.

Well, since the editors never post anything positive about MS, I'm just throwing this in. I've got karma to burn. This is really big news. MS is the FIRST Office suite vendor to store documents as XML in Office 11. People are bitching about the schema, but really, that won't be an issue. It can be very, very easily reverse-engineered by anyone with any kind of text viewer. 100% Open Standards from MS. Wow.

Anyone remeber the porn games vivid made for the 3do back in the day
No, but I *DO* remember ascii porn that you could print on daisywheel or dot-matrix printers.

NES and SNES before PC gaming? Are you crazy? The NES came around about, oh, I don't know, about 10-15 years after games first appeared on PC's.

Is binary in XML up to spec? I've never heard of such a thing. They said they're gonna be 100% compliant with the XML specs.
