From the article - A network block device (NBD) driver makes a remote resource look like a local device in Linux, allowing a cheap and safe real-time mirror to be constructed.
I would think that if you had posted a story about it maybe you could have received some help for some of the more intellegent Slashdot readers. Also, Slashdot was to busy to tell its readers, but Slashdot had time to tell Wired.

One of the reasons that the markes went down is because of the inflation report - consumer inflation was 0.7% last month. The worry is that the fed will raise interest rates by 0.50% or more to slow down the inflation rate. The markest do not like interest rate increases.
Why did Slashdot change the article description? This happens all the time it appears. Is it that DIFFICULT to leave a note saying the description was changed??????
Loves the comment about the "Idle Rich" but one question? Don't the people hosting the show fit that catagory? After all you can't even tell us why Slashdot died the other night.
How hard is it to note the story has changed? Just a little link that goes to a listing of ALL the changes made to a headline? Also, will we ever get an explanation of why Slashdot was down the other night?
please see The Second Amendment as Teaching Tool in Constitutional Law Classes for the correct meaning of well-regulated militia. From http://www.law.ucla.edu/faculty/volokh/2amteach.ht m#32 Militia" in the 1790s quite clearly referred to pretty much the entire adult male white citizenry (age 18 to 45). See United States v. Miller, 307 U.S. 174 (1939). This is still the definition under the Militia Act of 1956, 10 U.S.C. 311, though of course extended beyond whites (and probably extended to women by the Court's recent equal protection cases); and it's one of the definitions given in the dictionary, see, e.g., Random House Dictionary 1220 defn. 3 (2d ed. unabridged 1987). Of course, most students first interpret the word in the more common modern meaning of a National Guard-like body.
From http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20000211/tc/micros oft_stock_1.html Dell Computer CEO Michael Dell also made news with comments made Thursday during discussion of the company's earnings report. Dell said that the corporate adoption of Windows 2000 will likely be slow, and that the rival Linux operating system was gaining ground. ``We don't see a massive immediate acceleration due to Windows 2000,'' said Dell in a conference call. The combination of news sent Microsoft shares tumbling, down $6.061/4 to $99.933/4 per share on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Gartner Group has predicted that 15 percent to 20 percent of Microsoft's current business customers will move the their computer systems from Windows NT 4.0 to the new Windows 2000 system by the end of the year. Gartenberg added that up to 45 percent of Microsoft customers would make the move by the end of 2001.
My father who until about 6 months ago HATED computers uses Napster. But I did not tell him about it, he heard it on the news...I have talked to him about it and he said IF he could he would pay for the songs that he has downloaded...
The XFree86 Project has been working very hard to get the 4.0 release out the door. It is taking a little longer than expected so we will be releasing the next pre-4.0 snapshot (3.9.17) before the end of the year. We expect to release 4.0 about two months later in mid-Q1/2000.
XFree86 3.3.6 will be released in parallel with 3.9.17 as well.
From Slashdot Moderation last updated 9.9.99 by CmdrTaco Bad Comments are flamebait. Bad comments have nothing to do with the article they are attached to. They call someone names. They ridicule someone for having a different opinion without backing it up with anything more tangible than strong words. Bad comments are repeats of something said 15 times already making it quite apparent that the writer didn't read the previous comments. They use foul language. They are hard to read or just don't make any sense. They detract from the article they are attached to. Why where most/all of the comments in this thread moderated down? Why can't slashdot leave a message saying the article was edited? Not buried in the comments but in the article description?
Also, are we ever going to find out why slashdot.org was down so long the otherday?
What is the deal with slashdot?
The site goes down for hours and NO reason is posted.
Story headlines are changed and no notice is given that they where changed.
Why? What has happened to slashdot? I have been here for a long time (User # 2xxx)
