For Exchange 2000/2003 users Ximian Connector for Microsoft Exchange is a good solution for using Evolution on Linux/Solaris with the corporate server.
Our comapny has two departments one OSS based, and one Microsoft based. The OSS guys are mostly running evolution on fedora (although nothing is really mandated). Mozilla Thunderbird is popular with the MS guys (to save licensing), the same reason they use open office.
The following can be done to stop the spread of this Beagle/Bagle worm:
scan all email for virus/worms/malware when they enter the email server, such software is available for Linux/Unix/MacOS X/Windows etc.. This software has to regularly download virus definitions.
if your email is at kept your isp, or email passes through them before it reaches you, make sure that your isp offers this service.
do not use the ubiquitous outlook client, I have found Novell Ximian Evolution to be an excellent alternative
Make sure you patch your operating system, against known security flaws, most operating systems now have a automated way of doing this
pressure your bosses/university/school to not use software with a poor security record - outlook, internet explorer etc.
lay a charge with law enforcement officials when you are damaged by a worm/virus attach.
I believe the hitchhikers radio plays and books from douglas adams are amongst the most creative and funniest work ever. It's interesting to note that jrr tolkien was adamant that Disney would never make a move over his body of work, especially after what they did to the work of the grimm brothers.
Peter Jackson did a great job considering what a huge undertaking it was, and it's a long way from his work on Meet the Feebles which was my first introduction to him at University of Cape Town Film Society.
A little research showed that it is built on existing standards, namely DNS and SASL SMTP. This should ease it's implementation.
But heres some obvious ways to prevent spam.
If you have a common first name, don't have an email address of the form firstname@domain, you are guaranteed to be hit by a dictionary attack
Don't publish your email address on the web, make sure any websites you subscribe to hide your email address or use email address hiding technique
If your on a mailing list make sure that if the archive is available on web that it hides your address
Well it is early days, and the success of projects such as these depends on community participation. For example it probably needs some volunteers for the documentation.
I guess that's why Microsoft has made Windows Services for UNIX available for free download. I'd be interested (from the perspective of the development projects I am involved in) to benchmark Cygwin Postgresql against a native Linux Postgresql running under Co-Linux.
If you have a look at the roadmap you will see that are planning to implement a frame-buffer device to replace the need to use Cygwin/XFree86. I wish them good luck.
When I wan't to use *nix tools under Windows I've always trusted Cygwin, but I can see how this project can provide a good alternative to Cygwin XFree86 as suggested in the roadmap. This could also provide an excellent solution for developers to test interoperability between Internet Explorer and Linux webservers - especially if they are limited to one computer. It could also be used to educate people on using Linux, it is a perfect match with Knoppix in this respect.
Wine developers could use this compare apps running natively and those running under wine side-by-side.
There's virtually no software that runs on them except the standard Unix stuff.
I hate to break it to you - but theres ton of that standard unix stuff - and most of it runs just as well on all real operating systems e.g. GNU/Linux, the BSDs and MacOS X.
Apache PHP MySQL Postgresql Sendmail SSH X Free86 Gimp
To name only a few! And by the way I have almost exclusively x86 servers. Have an open mind!

Wow! Thanks for all the info, I just wish I had a job as interesting as yours. [It's 1:20am in the morning in South Africa, and I just got back from work, fixing badly written oracle queries]
Seriously, how democratic is the planning process? In what forum are disputes resolved? I'm sure the debate over which rocks to explore can get quite heated.
Click on the gc-linux link results in a very strange error message from the server:
You have probably reached this page in error.
If you were attempting to reach a site that's domain ends in.sourceforge.net, it is likely that your browser is not HTTP/1.1 compliant. This may be because you're running a very old version of MSIE or Netscape.

By the way I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20030225

Is it true that spirit makes use of Java? Or does only the "client" software used to control it,use Java. Does it have an OS and if so which/or what type? Does it use a RTOS or Linux or a BSD?
Why not host your own webmail - for ages our (relative small south african) software development company has been hosting our own webmail for internal use. I can see little reason for using a commercial provider.... what's the benefit?
How many useless link farms are out there - especially those who are cybersquatting on expired domains. One the web we need easy access to content.... not links... to links... to linls
The guys are at Google are so innovative, I'm sure they could come up with some spam filtering technology. They could leverage info from their USENET archive or the web.
We had 7-Eleven in south africa. It recently merged with Friendly (previously called friendly grocer). It's now called Friendly 7-Eleven.

What are the rules for mirroring the rover images on your website - can this be done legally? I know the images are credited to NASA / JPL.

Google does have flaws too! Take a look at the googlewashing of miserable failure it brings up the official biography of George Bush as the first link. More coverage of this issue can be found on Searchenginewatch.com.

I would be ashamed comparing Google to that RefDesk site. It is so riddled with popups it should have been a post on this Slashdot story.
