I didn't need any test run to know what to do, electrical tape over the camera, and while I turned the microphone off (you can talk to it "open so and so") I'm sure it's very much active.

While stated in the TOS, they have no warnings such as from Samsung which basically says: "my god folks we can hear every word you say".

It's what they tried to have the Xbox do but were shouted down from that approach, while everything else MS sales has it's abilities.

Oh no I don't trust it at all, it was a gift so I keep it around, stopping it from connecting to the WiFi whenever it wants is checked often to insure it's not, as that's one of it's built in "features", it will find a source and connect, camped my phone for awhile.

Who knows (mass audience?). Birthdays are killing me, everyone else knows my Sons birthday is coming, but yours truly; and to a smaller extent special occasions planned in the spur of a message. It was hard to give any info to facebook, but rewarding family wise.

And facebook is damn hard to get back into, I still have an active hotmail account that I used to join Facebook, then MS blocked my access to it, I had it forwarding my email to Gmail, so while I can't access it, all my mail makes it through - now try to get that across to facebook with the right page for that purpose, and url of your page who's name you share with 34k others.

In the case of script kiddies, these are people who are running a program to detect vulnerable points in various systems. They can run this script while doing something else so (as another poster pointed out), they can be working a legitimate job during the day while the script runs and then making money by hacking the vulnerable servers at night.

I agree, the statement "the average attacker conducts eight attacks per year" doesn't take into account those who have just messed around to a position where it's a weekly/daily activity, they would also be looking for easy targets and not linger long as a general rule.

Hell in my youth, I used to run a war dialer just looking for other modems when there were so few around. These days a lot can be done with Angry IP Scanner.

I use Comodo firewall version 5.3.176757.1236 ~If it ain't broke don't fix it, been using it for
years now. Between it and my hosts file I've stopped a lot of problems others have had.

This version is very easy to configure, and a very small foot print, and it's on top of every file that want's access. Charter.com turned MMC.exe into a keylogger, Comodo caught it, became the front program and the scrolling stopped you couldn't miss the event. (I bought a streighttalk phone with a reused number flagged by Charter.com for a debit, and I had direct deposit). It's an issue still in the process of my satisfaction.

Just had to get a shout out for Comodo, it's treated my very well for a long time now. As a firewall, sandbox and a fairly decent antivirus (which I quit using long ago), so fills a small gap as well.
