    Will slipping this into your back pocket by those of use that don't use a wallet or purse, screw up your magnetic stripped cards?

    I'm sure this has been thought of but how would you stop it.

    From what I read you apply electricity to remove a component, otherwise it's going to be held fast by I imagine rare metal magnet's, else fall apart on an impact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E...

    Sure, not only will they be giving away the OS, but they'll be missing out on all the patent royalties that they extort from manufacturers of Android devices. I guess they are hoping that the benefits from possible future market share will outweigh current profits.

    How much Microsoft receives from Android? I keep that for reference myself, just what I printed out as a PDF is now a 404

    Google has gotten around it with google.com/analytics it used to be googleanalytics.com
    It's the site that sends you your pre-selected ads on a mobile device as defined by where you've been, and who pays them.

    I just checked - NASDAQ is up significantly over DOW and S&P500, just like the dot-com days (98-99)

    Was at a kids birthday party, his Dad and I were talking when he says there's a lot of money to be made on the Internet, and I said no there's not. He comes back with all the money being spent by companies for these web sites, I said it's all speculation.

    The next week the bubble burst.

    19 billion for a web site and 2 billion for hardware, it's not making sense; other than a grab for everything while they can, and hope for the best.

    Giving away an OS (ala Android) must hurt them badly, it goes against everything M$ holds dear.

    I've never used Siri, but I can't see much difference from what I've heard about it and Goggle Voice. M$ creating a Siri killer is a half truth and one made by an Apple user.

    A rooted (jail broken) phone/tablet allows a HOSTS file letting one block (for one) shout-outs to Apple, and M$, every time you use a feature, they go to great lengths to prevent this. Google tells you how to root their's.

    Say what you will, Goggle has given us a lot. You allow tracking for their services; most here use their free DNS, so shouldn't be a problem.

    So it only took about a year of screaming from the users and slashdotters before Microsquishy paid attention and brought back the MENU instead of that god damned useless start screen.

    I figure they were trying to say they had control.

    MS has become insignificant compared to what they were years ago.

    Rather than saying take this, learn how, and enjoy it -knowing it was unpopular; they are now having to give the people what they want. I see it as a power play of sorts that didn't end well for them

    Themes? No. I gave those up to get a Classic menu. I was given a choice when they were significant.

    Used to be 3 Submarine cable gateways, two on the West coast and one on the East (New York), now there are a few more http://www.cablemap.info/ anything going those routes are sure to be monitored. Seeing as /. is accessed in Europe, yes it should catch some attention.

    Satellite or radio communications I've no clue how that works out; but my Dads job in the Air Force up till 1970 was to support/monitor that traffic (Philippines, Africa, Azores, India, etc), and he never talked about his work.

    I don't have any interest in it at all. Just reading the replies to see any mention of Opera 12; many sites claim it's outdated, OhCupid (on purpose) doesn't say a word about it.

    This is just advertisement of the only gay dating site I'm aware of (or establishing a clientèle), but then I don't do dating sites. What better way of doing so than with the "most popular" browser.

    Well, zero. NSA has been scanning UseNet since the 1980's, really any Internet traffic (I'm sure earlier than that). They don't read your "stuff", it's scanned for keywords, then routed as procedure requires. It used to be common knowledge, it's been forgotten as well as the Usenet -to all but a few of us. The word "Nuclear" has always been a keyword.

    Just saying one is going to need to read up on local legalities if/when they visit a foreign country; disabling the appropriate Google glass feature as required.

    Check out Istanbul Turkey on Google Earth, many areas are like this (almost blacked out). Google glasses on the ground in that area could cause the wearer problems.

    When I said my IP address will pin point me, it was if it were a legal situation. I should of been more specific; I didn't RTA, just the headline. A whois of my IP address will always show the wrong city as well as the wrong county, no proxie just my connection.

    PDF was a good read, while 6 years old it had this:

    "We also attempted to frame two IP addresses for which no machines were associated; these IP addresses were not remotely pingable and we did not receive any complaints for these IP addresses".

    Yet another reason to disable Ping.

    I first came across her in the video "How to trick people into thinking you're good looking" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... and it surprised me how decent it was (as opposed to most videos).

    The bigger surprise? She's making ton's of money from Youtube ($4.3 million at least) - good for her. http://www.celebritynetworth.c...

    Youtube has a video they put together "Rewind YouTube Style 2012" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... done to the video of PSY - Gangnam Style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... (working on 2 Billion views , mucho dinero). And where I came across FreddieW ($1.8 million) another good sense of humor.

    Yahoo has a long climb to even become seen as a video source, It went from the next big thing to unnoticed over night. Youtube has become huge and an unexpected source of income to many. Me? I still won't allow ads on my videos, that any aren't being being viewed is irrelevant :}

    I don't subscribe to any youtube channels, apparently that's a good thing, reading the comments on the Ars article you can't view Youtube, or comment to a video without first going through Google +, I can (it can't be that hard).

    And more importantly, I expect kick backs from all mentioned above.

    They're seeking to take advantage of complaints from users who make videos for YouTube that they don't make enough money for their efforts.

    Lets hope they put in even more ads. I really like the unskipable 30 second ads before some shitty 15 second video.

    Run a HOSTS file (Howdy apk), and use Tcpview www.sysinternals.com (Microsoft), easier HTTPNetworkSniffer www.nirsoft.net there may be better (wireshark is too much overhead) but these work for me.

    Find where the ad is coming from and block it, if that doesn't work, I'll just download the video, it comes without any filler.

    You mean, if I were to sneak into your home, and run an ethernet wire to your modem, then attach a wifi router so that I could torrent from down the street, your IP address would definitely pin my activity on you? Cool - I'll be there Friday morning!

    You don't need to, I have a hot spot open to all, it's location makes it well used and I don't monitor it at all. Why? Just me trying to be helpful.

    As for the pervert who might happen by, well one step at a time.

    A employee doesn't have the same rights as a non-employee, they play by a different set of rules. That Microsoft changed their privacy policy was for those who need to be spoon fed, or see Microsoft as their sugar daddy.

    The fuss isn't over the employee's email being read. It's about the email of a blogger who is *not* associated with MS (other than using a Hotmail account) being read.

    Who opened themselves up when they contacted Microsoft, the employee's email includes any they sent, and it's destination.

    I've yet to post anything bout this, but I've felt Microsoft was well within their means to check an ex-employees email. As legalese as Microsoft is I'd be very surprised if the employee didn't sign a Non-disclosure agreement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N..., which I feel gives Microsoft the right to.

    Microsoft mentioned from the very beginning that part of the tracking (legal) process was checking the employee's E-mail, so forward with that fact I'm sure they were blind-sided by the repercussions.

    If I read his name in any other context I'd have no clue who he was. And I've played the heck out of Dungeon Keeper, and Populous. Odd as well, a last name like his would seem to want to stick with you.

    I read someplace in that article When the idea of Microsoft and gaming comes up you think of an Xbox, actually I think of Ages of Empires, Xbox only because I was told that was the answer.

    Linked at the bottom of an article blasting the working conditions at Microsoft, is of poor Mr Holtman; "Microsoft Hires Former Steam Boss Holtman to Make Windows Great for Gaming"

    Wasn't there a lot of talk recently of Microsoft ditching the money pit called the Xbox?
