Let's see how it is in Holland...the monopolies I'm faced with:
The phone company
The Cable Company
The Gas company
The Electric Company
Public Transport Company(Trains and busses are separate companies, for the record)
The post Office
And now there is this government official spouting about how Cable Internet is going to be as normal as electricity, water and gas. Unfortunately, in my region one company monopolizes those products. Will I have to put up with even more crap from those guys if they're my only way of getting Internet on a 56+ Speed? Ah well, guess we're not as interesting as Canada...
They are foreigner friendly when compared to adjacent European countries. Trust me. I don't have a link to the eaxt stats, but Germany has accepted more fled foreigners in the past ten years than any other country. And when I say that, I mean calculated against the total number of a country's inhabitants.
Since this is what France wants, an international court should force france to bar its users from accessing Yahoo.
Sounds like a good idea, but I think you have your order of words a little wrong. An International court should bar France, period. After I got out of here, anyway. Oh, and judge, while you're at it, when France is gone, we wont't need Azerty keyboards anymore, will we?
Please present me with evidence that Europe has a higher fascism number than other parts of the world, please. And don't start talking about some of the political parties that have this kind of attitude, since these are the kid of parties that yell a lot, get elected by the people that are sick of the current establishment after which they have a certain amount of time to screw up while shouting their nonsense, before they end up in oblivion permanently. Oh, by the way, where you from any way?
With all due respect, but that's a lot of bugga. We (the noble Dutch) were conquered by the Germans in an about as violent way as we conquered some other countries a little further in the past. Quite a lot of elderly people still think Germans are spawn of the devil. Unfortunately quite a lot of the youngsters do so as well. Nearly every country in the world has made severe mistakes, some of them small, some of them very big. We can all agree to the fact that what the Germans did (some of them, that is) falls under the latter category. Neither can anyone who at least has a slight clue what he is talking about deny that Germany,at this moment, is one of the most foreigner-friendly countries in the world. Agreed, there are still some neo-nazis roaming around, but you find idiots everywhere, they're just called differently.
It says in very small letters in the manual:"Any and all programs written using this console will become the property of Sony. By not having read this agreement you have agreed to the fact that Sony can barge into your house at any time in order to reclaim their property"
What I was trying to say is, if you're going to advise people on what to buy, you should base your advice not on how things were, but on how things are the moment the hardware is going to be purchased. That's the only moment that really matters. The past is hardly worth mentioning, the future questionable at best.
Newsflash: In a recent interview with an anonymous AMD-spokesperson, the phrases "we are currently working on optimizing our processors for every type of software imaginable. Regrettably, there's too much software available to do it all at once of course, but we have just recentlyd completed work on optimizing our hardware with a wide range of often used programs", was heard. When asked what kind of software was going to perform better in the future the answer was: "Why, benchmark programs of course."
Note to moderators: just because you like something doesn't mean you can't joke about it...
The reason you were having trouble is because you used a good processor on a slightly *ahem* crappy motherboard. Nowadays there are some pretty goodmotherboars available for the AMD processors. In other words, don't blame AMD for the that crappy VIA chipset...
Somehow the crispy taste of "Firewire" appeals to me even more, especially if we can create a box with all the devices externally and a simple menu saying: "from which device do you want to boot today"...
Now AMD really will get the chance to conquer the big-end market!
And that's what we want? What we want is AMD taking over 50% of the market so we can see two giants bashing each other's heads in with us being the beneficiaries of it all. I wouldn't Intel losing some market share to Transmeta though...3 major players would be really cool...
Oh yes I can. Cluster enough of these P4's together and you'll have an assualt on the environment that'll make Tsjernobyl look like a little kid's prank.
I don't really get it. I took a quick look at your recent posts and you seem like the average Slashdotter: highly educated, intelligent, blah blah... What's the problem with those tests? I mean, morse wasn't really one of the hardest things I've ever had to learn...twas one of the most boring though...
I seriously doubt your PC is in any danger, since it is, as you mentioned, in a metal box. Besides, this is not the kind of signal your PC would be bothered by, except for maybe the soundcard...I do have some concerns about yourself though. How can you live with a guy like that next door? I would have payed him a visit after a week, maximum.

Hmmm, perhaps I should incorporate something about sigs replying to my sig. Good thing sigs don't breed...

I like it this way. Now I can do the whorin' while my sig does the trollin'.
There was one very reason to use GOTO...in ON ERROR GOTO the void that was...

Amen, brother. I've been doing quite a lot of programming as a kid, and I'll never be the same again.
Warning to all kids of the world
Programming in Basic will cause you to become like me...
Chances are, this version of BASIC will make QBASIC look like a programmer's wet dream.
You just convinced me. This has to be the best reason I've ever seen to buy a PS2...
Let me guess. Your sense of humour returned a syntax error?
similarly Windows is in many ways more valuable than Linux (from a management perspective; in addition, the product is more advanced too
In what way, tax deduction?
How are they planning to do that? I for one wouldn't mind paying 50% taxes on a 0 dollar purchase...

And since you're willing to pay for a P4, you're not really intent on keeping it that way, are you?

Up till WinNT/98SE your statement was correct. Have you recently tried running Win2000/ME on an Athlon/Duron? You'd be amazed...

Please read the parent post. I was trying to translate this to human language. You're not really helping:-)
