I can't believe they'd give 172 pages of terms a "yes or no" vote. this makes it extremely hard to pick out bits and pieces to omit or change. doesn't this seem a bit STUPID?
so I could host my homepage on the card. Why should they get to decide what goes on MY id card?....I could see it now, at the checkout line sliding my card through the reader, and the checkout clerk says "hey did you do those animations yourself? that's really cool!"
information, which music and movies media...really break down into digital data, wants to be free. empowered consumers will dominate to the point of removing laws protecting 'information' what's known is known, if you want to make money, do live performances. All the methods used now will be muted when my 20Ghz Linux wristwatch can decrypt in "realtime".
if I had a regular pc, and a server appliance with lots of ram with my filesystem all ready to go (backed up to a regular hard disk on the server), and I use network boot and mount the "ramdisk NFS share", how for from internal ram speeds would I be?
My local news station just had a rep from MS pitching WinXP, and pawned it off as being all kinds of revolutionary that you could have multiple user logins.....RUN people, run the other way fast!!!!
but then, hey, I wouldn't feel right running that monopolyware on my machine so it's kind of a non issue. BUT...try setting your default web browser using the open with dialog, can't be done to my knowlege. seems odd to exclude the options for setting a default web browser from this list doesn't it?
what has happened is that most people (end users trying to get work done) just turn off the virus scanner. it's not worth it, I'd rather get a virus. and along those lines, the only mail I get is from others in the corp, through exchange, which should remove virus anyhow, (most of them are powerpoint). I keep telling them I'd like to switch to linux, and they say "yeah that'd be nice"...not this year, but I'll keep asking.

The impetus for creating Patch Maker seems to lie in the fact that Mozilla bugs are raging out of control.
Mozquest is a load of shit, wht's this guy's motivation with giving bad information about the Mozilla project? is it personal? is there some kind of corporate interest involved? Patchmaker is a great project and should make things easier for developing Mozilla UI. how abolut this link to the project itself:
I agree, (it shouldn't be that hard) but it just illustrates that using MS means running all kinds of extra tools to detect virus and this overhead not only slows things down but complicates things. setting up your windows network migh seem easy, but keeping it running with all those 3rd party security apps is where it isn't worth it.
I work for a BIG company, (fortune 500) that runs MS Exchange server for mail. We recently upgraded from 95 to 2000 just a few months ago. (support for our working Win95 system having been discontinued by MS) The overhead created by all the security stuff running on the network has created lots of problems. Email is no longer 'realtimeish' meaning it may take 1/2 hour to recieve a message sent across our network. When right clicking in my browser window, it takes about 5 seconds for a menu to open (pentium III 500 128meg ram). My home pc runs Linux, and outperfoms my work computer at about half the hardware (PII 266) IT has been trying to figure out how to fix the mail delays for a few months now with no progress, and I don't think they even care that it takes me so long to perform functions in the browser, but most of my work is done in web-based tools. MS has the world by the nuts, and they're milking us all!!! at least in my home I still have a choice.
what kind of 'punch' does a strongarm processor provide in comparison to a desktop with a pentium of about the same speed? My desktop is a PII 266, yeah I've got more ram than the PDA, but will my apps I use on my desk run at similar speed on this PDA? I'm starting to think it's either time to upgrade my desktop, or consider using an embeded OS to speed things up.
star office has...I think it's called presenter... and it's got templates and walks you right through the whole thing. Koffice has something similar but I haven't tried it. IMHO both are acceptable alternatives to powerpoint.
I got trained on XP today at my company, (I do Tech support for an ISP)...they were showing us the new "luna" interface. I acidentally asked what window managers you can choose from, and if there were more than one desktop environment you could run..... DUH, this is MS, it's thier way or the highway.
go ahead an try and put windows into different layers on MS (Always on top?) Anyone who says that MS is easy to use just doesn't understand what's missing.
in the future, there'll also be a loop button, press once at begining of scene, and again at the end and just that part will loop. I just need to work out the license terms.
that's the other method they use currently and will continue to offer as an option:
[2-5] Royalty Free (RF) License
An RF License shall have the same characteristics as a RAND License, except an RF License:
* may not be conditioned on payment of royalties, fees or other consideration;
* may require that all licensees make any Essential Claims they control available to all on a no-royalty basis; and,
* shall not be considered accepted by an implementer who manifests an intent NOT to accept the terms of the RF license as offered by the licensor.
I think they shoud stick with this to be able to remain an impartial 3rd party group.
[2-4] Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (RAND) License
A RAND License:
* must be available to all implementers worldwide.
* must extend to all Essential Claims.
* may be limited to implementations of the recommendation, and to what is required by the recommendation.
* may be conditioned on a grant of a reciprocal license on RAND terms to all Essential Claims owned or controlled by the licensee and its affiliates.
* may be conditioned on payment of reasonable, non-discriminatory royalties or fees; and,
* may not impose any further conditions or restrictions on the use of any technology, IPRs, or other restrictions on behavior of the licensee; but,
* may include reasonable, customary terms relating to operation or maintenance of the license relationship such as the following: audit (when relevant to fees), choice of law, and dispute resolution.
what's a reasonable amount for someone living in Nepal versus someone living in the USA?
don't do this royalty thing, it's opening a whole can of worms like enforcement and audits that beg for corporate sponsorship and involvement. Why invite a bunch of lawyers to ruin an otherwise great party? This in my mind will destroy what w3c's version of a "standard" really means.
Also, let this post serve as an announcement of my new 'BlueNose' look.
I paint a shiny blue Dot on my nose.
Don't let me catch you using my "blueNose" look unless it's to be used on my face!!!
I like this part about sending your personal relics to the moon:
The rate to transport relics to the moon is $2500 per gram. Note: due to the velocity at which the 2001 TrailBlazer spacecraft will impact at the end of the mission, as well as the unknown nature of the lunar surface at the point of impact, no guarantee can be made as to the state of the payload following its arrival on the surface.
I guess that you can't expect them to promise not to break stuff. Anyone want to pitch in on getting a stuffed penguin in the likeness of Tux sent to the moon? (perhaps make one out of aerogel or something really light.) It'd be great if it was big enough to see from the ground with a good telescope.

it's nice to hear about this type of story without reading the phrase
"XYZCorp is suing Foocorp over blahblah"
10.1 was supposed to speed things up, Linux on the Mac is reportedly pretty fast, given the upgrade to 10.1, what' the "fastest" os for a new Mac?
