I said "I try" to avoid MS. There are a bunch of things I do use from MS, like the fonts and Visual Studio. I hate to admit it, but I really like VS. I also use the libs to run games in wine.

Also, I always hear, "look how bad the fonts render" in reviews and such. Honestly, I don't know what they are talking about. I don't understand. Everything on my screen is perfectly legible. I have no complaints. But someone knowledgeable of font rendering may look at my screen and say, "why don't you just shoot yourself now?"

I own a "kit" aircraft that I built. I can assure you that no one let's the owner do "stupid shit". I had inspectors verifying my work monthly. I had to document the entire process and rebuild parts I fucked up or that they felt hesitant about. My plane is true in every sense of the word. The end result is a better than factory aircraft that exceeds all safety regulations. Did I mention it is fully aerobatic as well and its main spar is capable of withstanding +/- 7 G's? I also spent 7 years of my life building the plane. I doubt anyone will want to spend that much time on a $7k car kit.

I actually like "fresh" wine. Every year in Germany (I lived there for three years), we'd go to the wine fests and drink "new" wine. It still had the CO2 fizziness - yum. Oh wait, did I say CO2, I'm sure to get modded flamebait for that one. I like mature wine as well, but I fondly remember the new as well.

I agree with "Understand the reasons for the current situation". Once you do, you may find that there are political reasons or an unwillingness by management to spend money on "unnecessary" additional software. Once you stumble into one of these situations, you're either going to need to learn to adapt and SLOWLY change them or you'll find yourself very frustrated the rest of your time there. Once a company has a "working" solution, it's hard to change the heading of the ship especially as the "know it all" new guy. Be careful or you'll be branded a "loose canon".
