See I thought the same thing. Why would you put a computer in every home if said home does not have the power to run the machine, a phone line for basic modem connection or say water to drink so you can live and use the computer. Reading is a good point also.
Too bad it's only for AIM; it would be interesting to apply similar principles to blogs.
With AOL's restrictive polices towards it's IM software I'll bet this program won't be for AOL only for long (a la Trillian), my bet it moves to include other popular IM clients all while AOL tries hard to stop it from actually helping their users. You know you're really restictive when users resort to using anything by Microsoft because it's more "open".
If you don't mind helldesk for shit wage and crappy hours.
I don't mind at all. I need cash for this nasty habit I picked up of living and/or eatting. I'm not that desperate yet but I think alot of us are hurting for a job, any job, even "helldesk" as you put it, LOL.
Maybe you lost 110,000 genes but I was luckier, I only lost 100,000. I'm on the high side. Unfortunately the 100,000 I lost account for good looks, intelligence and strength.
Yeah especially in a city like New York or LA. It'd be faster to walk to the site to read the information then use this. I'm hoping there are multiple channels.
My bet is that junk mail stays at the same level no matter if they block these hosts or not. Most AOL spam comes from inside the AOL system anyways. The junk that doesn't comes from systems that AOL could never block.
See here is what I don't understand. Why should/would MS want Universal? If Jobs buys it he will have to pay MS royalitys for using their format to distribute the songs online anyways so they will make money. Now Apple if they buy Universal will have to dump money into promotion of 1)the service 2)the artists and 3)the actual product (CD's, tapes, etc). If I were MS I'd sit back and watch what happens, if it works buy one of the other labels (you know they could buy all the other 4 actually) and collect money from Apple that way also. Just seems like right now Microsoft is thinking of buying the label just so Apple can't. Which, knowing Gates, is entirely possible.
All the Americans here told the rest of the world to watch out, other DMCA-like bills would try to be passed in other countries. Germany it still isn't too late. Protest in the streets, call representatives, anything. Don't let it pass or you're going to end up in a similar mess as us.
John Walker's 'engineer's approach' to losing weight is built around this astonishing insight, as described in his online book/weight loss plan The Hacker's Diet
As opposed to John Walker Lindh's 'terrorist approach' to losing weight that is built around hanging out in a flooded prison for a week with no food at all.
True enough, but the fasination with him will be gone. Plus, I love the rerm "asshat". Thanks for eminding me about it, I left my vocabulary for a while and now is going to return, LOL.
Wow that didn't someone long to register that name. Seriously Though, I give this current obsession with Mohammed Al-Sahaf 2 weeks tops before people say "Who?"
My advice is a bit different then the advice above. First open a tax haven in Bermuda, second profit away. I realize you are probably listing no profits specifically for tax reasons. Hell if Bush's friends in big business can do it you should be able to also. Although you may wind up being targeted by these folks.
Yeah but the computer with the CD drive attached to it are in the US, you copied into Mexico so who trys you for the crime then? Thats my only question.
This could pose some interesting questions. Say (for instance) your computer resides in Texas, on the very edge of the border. Then you take one of these and put it over the border in Mexico at your friends house acroos the other side of the border. Who can press charges against you for your illegal MP3's? The US? Not really, no physical evidence of the files. Mexico? Again not really because no computer is connected to the drive. Any answers anyone?
Maybe not for you but not having a job makes anything cost prohibitive. Well I have a job but not MUCH of I job I should say. I have enough to pay for living and with what little extra I have I'd like to be able to get a wireless card, specifically one that I won't have to buy again in a year or 2 when the specs change.
I think I speak for everyone when I say put egos aside, gather the best of each protocol into one protocol and make it the standard and release products for it. I think people (in general) are scared right now because they don't want to buy a product that will not be usuable in a year or two. I want my WiFi already.
And MSN Messenger and Yahoo IM'er are trying to catch up with every webcam portal out there that have been around for at least 3 years now. I think this will all eventually catch on but only after AOL starts giving away free webcames with their free CD's. Ok maybe it won't catch on then.
Well since AOL sowns ICQ now also the whole world basically DOES use AIM. Last I heard AOL was working on (done now?) getting AIM and ICQ to communicate with each other. I imagine the video IM technology they develop will trickle into ICQ also.
I don't think sell out would be the right word. Most of the people running indie labels know their music but don't know the economics of it as well as the Big 5. Sure they understand find the lowest price to create the product and sell it for the highest price, who doesn't? What might or might not happen though is the hiring of accountants, lawyers and financial planners. These are the guys who will nit pick everything and want to sue everything. If the owners of the labels can keep control of their company and have final say of who gets sued and who doesn't then no one should worry, indie folks at heart aren't the suing kind. If they loose control of their company then the problem is definately just that, a problem.

Amen, I'd be happy if the tech sector grew by just one job as long as that job has my name on it.
On a Sunday after work hours huh? I dunno what jobs you are thinking of.

I think it's always healthy to fear the abilities of our government. It's even more dangerous when we ignore or don't care about their abilites.
Hahaha Yeah I must give it to the Iraqi's they do get medieval on our asses with language. The battlefield, ehhh, thats another story.

Thats what I thought but then I thought maybe *HIS* kind or porn is illegal then it all made sense.
