According to the latest angle of the story: http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=510436, it seems the only reason the data survived was due to the old DOS format kept all the data in a few sectors of the drive that were untaouched by any physical damage.
Also, interesting to note, that the reason the other two hard drives that were un-recoverable were due to the loss of magnetism of the metal plates during the high heat of re-entry. I wonder what specs they had.
Yes, if anyone is wondering, I do work for the company, but not as a PR person or a data recovery tech. So I have close sources, but not that close.
Just thought I should point out that your somewhat irrational thinking of Obama is completely unfounded. He is a Christian man. Considering what he is going through now with Reverend Wright's sermons, and Barack's recent unwillingness to distance himself from his, but condemning the politics of them is quite telling.
Even so, personally, I am hoping for a good 3rd party candidate.
Unlike that example case, the many pieces of the satellite will not grow back into a whole satellite again. Each peice will be less massive and therefor less destructive upon impact with what will likely be the ocean if the attempt is successful.
What, buying your way to religious enlightenment (buying books) is not the way to do it? Hmmm... I guess I'll stop throwing money in the plate then, I never got any books for doing that.
In my opinion, current MMORPGs still have no where near the kind of flexibility in game subject matter and style that the human brain can come up with. To compete in that aspect, the closest there is would be Neverwinter Nights (1 or 2). Until the on-line games are as flexible as paper & pencil (which is nearly impossible) I will take the table top over the computer games whenever it is available. MMOs are only a good pacifier for the time between each game session.
Web-based would be great. Hacing a visible on-line repository of your characters would be very advantageous for my gaming group. It's impossible to count the number of times characters have had to been rewritten from memory just before a session when the sheet has been lost.
Is there some reason why Kucinich is regularly left out of all Presidential debates and comparisons? Is there some reason that everyone is afraid of him? Don't tell me a congressman isn't good enough to be a President. Only Senators can become president this time around?

Perhaps the other two hard drives that were on the shuttle and too far gone to retrieve data from.

Used to. Seagate has begun eyeing the data recovery business.
Why go larger if you don't need too? Efficiency was the key here, all they needed was 400MB.
99% of the data on the drive was recovered actually.
Here is a non-slashdotted article (so far).

Or the Google jobs. What?! Not funny? Bah, you mods suck. Look up alternative, surreal and/or dead pan humor on Wikipedia, you nerds!
Hmmm... I don't get that joke at all. Where's the "In Soviet Russia..." part?

Which is great, as desert isn't very pleasant to eat. All that sand.

In a similar light, the entire industrial revolution must have been a disaster for people too, right? How about the invention of farming?

Bzzt... There's plenty of story and interaction to be had in D&D if you're RPG group wants to do it.
You multitaskers are making me too dumb to do work and read SlashDot all day (or night in my case).
I think I have prior art on that one.
I'm stealing that idea!
Do you mean the ones in the white cloaks and pointy-looking hoods?

Doesn't the term disappointment require a failed expectation? Did anyone expect any more from this Windows installment?
If you like Dodd's move, be sure to contact his office and express your support. Let him know he is doing the right thing.
Yep, we were right. Told you so.
Just not in a funny - haha - sense of the word. Maybe more of a "what smells?" kind.
