    Actually I would think that the D came from display. You know, linux may support a display, but do they also support Display Sharp (D#).

    No, they wanted to re-count the counties in which Gore overwhelmingly won, not the entire state. This of course would easily skew the election towards Gore, if Gore truely cared about counting every vote, they should have also fought for recounts in all of Florida's counties, and not just the ones in which Gore had the majority. He was just a sore loser, and I hope that he tries to run in '04.

    Not to mention these cookie cutter boy bands, that parents are being forced to throw billions at. Every one of these bands looks the same, sound the same, etc.

    I know someone who got an MCSE, and he said the hardest part was scraping up the cash to take the test (which he said was simple). I have to much pride then to whore myself to microsoft.

    I can see a network of MCSE technical school graduates trying to "stomp" a world wide group of computer enthusiasts (mostly Linux zealots). The difference is most linux people actually love working on computers. Myself I have been doing this kinda stuff since I was a kid (like 7), and right now I am 25 and can't get enough of it.

    Most of us don't just do this for a living, but we live to do this.

    and yes, I do have a girlfriend and a life :-)

    I remember using a computer with a VGA adapter, when VGA first came out..... I fell in love! Now look at the resolutions we get 1.6k*1.2k.... Gotta love it... :-)

    I have no problems with my GF4 card either. Linux (kernel et. al.) would lock up if I had APM enabled, but I after I disabled APM sweet perfection.

    Microsoft "VISION" is almost every geek's nightmare. Transforming our computers into conformity boxes, and make them tools of corporations, designed to suck every cent out of our wallet, while removing our freedoms.

    The inverse is true for me! I pirated, basically up until I got DSL. Basically I was stuck on Winblows, and when I started using Linux, I got DSL. It is nice to to FTP installs, or download .ISO images, etc. Why waste your bandwidth pirating Windows, and related software?

    I didn't really like mandrake, it might be because I have used RedHat for years. I know that RH is the MSFT of Linux, but they have a good product!

    I have an old P233 MMX, that I am installing Gentoo on, to see if I like it (Still compiling 8 hours so far!). If Gentoo is fast on that machine, I will install it on my AMD AthlonXP 2100+ (which is currently running RH).

    Well the government should be forced to shut down roads that lead to drug dealers. I believe child pornography is one of the worst cancers in our society, but they should be enforcing the law (i.e. arresting) as opposed to walling off these predators.

    Yeah, but at least Sun's existence doesn't depend on Microsoft. Microsoft could squish Dell if they ever wanted to, not the case with Sun. Sun has carved themselves a little niche in the market that Dell, HP, and MSFT can't fill.

    Not just that but 266, atleast he could have used the A7S-333 if he wanted to go with the SIS chipset. He needs an A7V-333 (MMMMMMMMmmmmm VIA KT333).

    Asus makes the best motherboards, and they are available in all price ranges. If you are building an Athlon system, seriously consider the A7V-333, it is worth the price, and it has everything you could want in a motherboard.

    I am just speaking from past experiences..... For my current PC I got the Lian Li PC 60 case (not from TG to much $$$$ there). I am thouroughly pleased with my new rig!

    Spend the extra 50-60 bucks on a good case, cheap cases suck, and nothing ever lines up right (i.e. Motherboards, Cards, etc). Make sure there is plenty of room inside the case, a removable motherboard tray is nice for when you are installing the heatsink on the processor and when you are installing memory!

    I guess it is an unfair comparison though, because I am running an AMD AthlonXP 2100+, KT333 Chipset, 512 MB of DDR 2700 RAM, and a RAID1 setup (2 ATA133 7200 RPM drives). :-)

    Go to www.nvidia.com, and click on the download drivers link.

    Click through the selections, download the kernel driver and the GLX driver. RTFM (Even geeks have to do this, because it is not the usual ./configure, make, make install) and you too can have killer graphics on your box!

    Yeah I hate when people use the nv driver, and complain about choppy video. The nv driver isn't even good enough to play tuxracer.

    When I bought my GeForce4 card and ran tux racer it was choppy and unplayable, I downloaded the drivers from nVidia, and now I can play UR2003, and the graphics are smooth as silk!

    Actually I am a software developer, and I work in a 'Windows Shop' and I still haven't even seen anyone use visio.

    Yeah! My linux box has all of the functionality as a windoze box. As long as someone doesn't use one of Microsoft's closed protocols (like streaming Windows Media Player), or APIs (ActiveX, DirectX). When competing on open standards like Open GL, Java, etc. Microsoft doesn't stand a chance. I built me a new PC last month, and it doesn't have 1 piece of M$ code, and I believe it is twice as functional as my Windows box!

    Or you just get a pre-rolled distro, which basically has all of the available drivers already available as kernel modules. Only time I go searching for drivers is when I get a kernel from kernel.org. When I built my parent's PC all of the hardware was automatically detected.... (Wasn't the case back in the day eg. 1998, 1999)
