    Are you by any chance talking about the heat spreader? The heat spreader isn't the size of the die. The die is 193mm^2, and the barton die size is 101mm2, which means the Opteron is about 2 times as big as the barton die.

    The heat spreader makes it look huge, like it covers the entire packaging.

    Probably because the Opteron isn't supposed to compete with the Athlon MP. It would be like AMD comparing the Athlon with the K6. The Opteron IS supposed to compete with the Itanic II, and the Xeon.

    I usually get them, the only ones I have never gotten were from MSFT. One was a sidewinder game controller rebate ($20 and never got it), and another was for MSDOS 6.22 (back in the day, and never got it either).

    I like Sun servers and Solaris, and I like AMD... :-) I hope sun is able to make some more money by using AMD's chips. Anything Sun/AMD develops has to be better that WinTel....

    One or two "hit songs" aren't enough for me to buy a CD, I have gotten burned a lot of times by this. I sample 4 or 5 non-hit songs to see what I think of the rest of the CD before I buy.

    I downloaded 2 or 3 avril lavigne songs, and found out that I liked her music. Then went down to the store and bought her CD. If I didn't sample a couple of her songs, I probably wouldn't have bought it...

    Every CPU that I have ever used has been keyed, so there was only one way to put it in (the pin that is missing in one corner). Try to take an AMD Athlon and plug it in the wrong way, doesn't fit....

    How true, I have used WD hard drives since I started assembling my own computers, and never had a problem. Bought two Maxtors a couple of months ago, and both have died, while my 3 y/o WD still works perfect. Maxtor really sux!

    The fact that George W. Bush built a coalition without the help of the (worthless) United Nations is remarkable enough.

    I think that the UN should pass sanctions against us the United States, it isn't like UN sanctions mean anything. What are they going to do invade the United States? (Good Luck)

    Also why is Iraq a UN problem and North Korea a US problem?

    All of my immediate family, folks, brother, etc. are running Linux, so I am basically their only tech support. Thank god for ssh, and VNC. :-) I've only had to remote login once though, most of the questions have been over the phone.

    The whole purpose of H1-B visas were to fill tech jobs that the US doesn't have enough skilled workers to fill. Now we do, and the H1-Bs are just to keep technology salaries down.

    I was 16 when I built my 486DX (right when they came out). I was getting the finishing touches on it and I hadn't put the top of the case on yet. It was sitting on the floor next to my desk and I spilled a full can of sprite right through the top of the case. Luckily I only fried the $20 IO card. I was happy I didn't fry my 1MB video card, my Sound Blaster 16 or my 4MB worth of memory modules. :-) Oh how times have changed.
