Sometimes the nVidia drivers have problems with APM, I have an Asus A7V333, and it doesn't work with APM. A friend has an A7S333 no problems with APM. Maybe the problem is with the VIA KT333 chipset, but if I run APM is freezes solid as a rock.
I run the nVidia drivers, and have no problem. Why would anyone not use the nVidia drivers under Linux. I have a dual head setup (not Xinerama). One is a Gforce 4 Ti4600, the other is a GF2. I can frag with my first and keep an eye on slashdot and my e-mail on the second.
At least my 760 beacon score (Credit Rating) finally is going to do me some good. Keeping my bills paid will prevent me from getting felt up by the TSA. I'm all for it!
Maybe they should patent a device that resembles a chair with water in it that is used for humans to deficate in. Maybe this device could be made of porcelin and be put in the same room as your shower.:-)
How about 2 6'0" 200lb people in the back seat and the same in the front. Not everyone needs one of those SUV (Supid User Vehicles). Yes it was comfortable, and we drove from Florida to Michigan and back, and no one bitched about having to ride in the back seat.
2 Adults and 3 kids can comfortably sit in a honda civic (especially the new ones). I went on a road trip with 3 friends and we all rode in comfort, and still had room for the cooler in the backseat.
All that time/money/effort, and Windows is arguably as stable as linux has been for years. Microsoft and Windows is a scam, can you imagine if all of that time was invested into Linux. I just downloaded SP3 for my machine at work, and played around with the "set program access and defaults" tab they added, and it errored out like crazy on me. All of the fixes from windows update were security fixes, like 22 of them. For the last 5 years I have refused to buy Windows, and build my PCs from scratch, because I am sick of my money going to this large corporate scam called microsoft windoze!
Stupidest invention ever. I own a 2002 Honda Civic, let's compare it to the Segway.
Segway:
Top Speed: 12MPH
Range : 10 Miles
Max Occupants: 1
Honda Civic:
Top Speed: 110MPH
Max Occupants: 5 (Plus a huge trunk for storage)
Range : Unlimited (or until I run out of gas money)
Considering my Honda Civic cost only 3 times as much as a segway, and I get much more utility from it. I live in Florida, so an A/C is required (or it is no better than my bike).
Then they should understand that microsoft is going to fsck them and they should buy a Mac. You don't buy a car without researching it, and you shouldn't buy a computer without researching it either. Would you buy a car that sends your speed and location to every cop within a mile radius?
This only affects windows users, if the mainstream computer users (geeks excluded) want to give all of their freedoms up to MSFT, so be it. I run linux, and can do what ever I want with my data, be it music , video, source, etc. If you are stupid enough to give microsoft money to control your life, you might be to stupid to own a computer.
Why don't they just encrypt it, and print out the encrypted source in hex. Then anyone who wants it can send a SASE to get it.:-) Does the GPL have any provision against encrypting the source before distributing it?
I always like the Progra~1 directory, or if you have multiple Microsoft* directories, you get:
Micros~1
Micros~2
Micros~3
I always love how half-assed microsoft does things, the only thing I hate is that they get rich of such horrible software. Half of the OS is filled with such half-assed fixes. Their key is that they make it look somewhat pretty to a moron who wouldn't know a command line from a power line.
Where I work IT sets up all of the drive mappings. The P: drive is personal where you can keep your stuff private (i.e. with permissions, etc). Then we have the S: drive that stands for shared. So when I talk to someone about a file, they say "Oh let me move it over to the S: drive". Believe it or not a lot of people understand the concept of shared vs. local, etc. I hate the idea of letter: being the name of a file system, but it is pretty mainstream here.
As much as I hate to say this, but we need a fs that has a windows look to it. To most users/mnt/floppy means it is time to get some viagra, they know that their floppy drive is A:, hard drive is C:, and their network drives are L:, M:, N:, etc. I personally think that A: B: C: D: are horrible names for drives, I like the idea of file systems being mounted off of a root fs, but most people don't understand that concept. I personally wouldn't use a fs like this, but for it to be commonly accepted among users, they are going to need something like this.
No! Keep the command line as powerful as it is, but make the GUI tools more powerful. I love being able to edit/etc/X11/XF86 config by hand. Currently none of the configuration tools are powerful enough for me to configure my Dual-Headed setup with two different sized monitors at two resolutions, nVidia reference driver, etc.
I think it could be "possible" but how cheap can they make it. The processors don't have to be the same clock speed (I believe the new sun machines can handle procs of different clock rates). In current systems, processors need to have the same bus interfaces (ie a 266MHz bus, and a width of 32 bits). The problem would lie with the width of the bus, and speed of the bus.
I have my parents running linux, and my mother will be thrilled that they have 4 new games. Whenever I come over to their house, she is always playing with those games that come with KDE.
I would go just for the swag (as long as my company was paying for me to go). Nifty keychain rubik's cubes, stuffed penguins. I would probably get kicked out though for heckling the Microsoft booth. I would probably frisbee AOL CDs at them or something... Am I the only one who finds it kinda stupid the MSFT was at LinuxWorld?
I am a conservative republican, but my post was more like a RTFA. Not democrats are holier than thou. Any Washington politcian is for sale, Democrat or Republican.
It did that with the 3xxx driver, but since I've upgraded to 4191, no problems!

Well ATI should release drivers like nVidia does. I am running a GF4 Ti4600 on my machine and it kicks ass.

Name me a microsoft Operating System that has the functionality of linux.

Yeah, old fashoned 9 track tapes, not these new fangled 8mm data tapes. :-)

The article states that it ramps up the fan when in 3D mode, well what if you run a 3D OpenGL screensaver. Time to go deaf.
