Awesome story. This is one that I will definitely pass on to others. I find it interesting that they asked you for your password though. Customer Support Law dictates that a CS rep "will never ask you for your password".

Who decides what is enough though? Is it enough for me (as an ISP) to simply post a message on my web site to my users? Should I be required to send a letter to all customers? Or should I have to go to the extreme of monitoring all traffic? This becomes a very disturbing point because all of the funding for such ventures comes from me, not the companies who have problems with the content passed through my systems. The recording industry(s) want the most advanced and extreme measures taken but does anyone know where the $$ comes from to implement this? No wonder my cable bill went up.

I'm sure M$ will secretly release a nice java virus or threat of some kind. This will in turn set the media into a frenzy and M$ can step up to the plate and say "Our OS won't allow such things to happen..." Of course, they won't say anything more than that to allow themselves to look good. Everyone will hear about it on their "Power Lunch" and run out to buy XP. Pretty slick.

Use the pen or mouse to check the correct boxes (or a touch screen) on an old x86 workstation (running X?). Ballots can then be enlarged for the viewing impaired so that they can be double checked before submitting.
The terminal then prints out (or punches.. HEY a use for all the old punchcard machines!!!) a ballot. When the ballot is turned in, the tally is counted from the computer and from the machine. That way, we have a backup/physical method to re-count if necessary.
The cool thing though, would be that you could vote from any precinct and simply log into yours. (The physical ballot would have the appropriate information printed on it).
Voting should not be allowed from home. There is too much room for error at this time.

You seem to be stereotyping Americans. There are many Americans who do treat women and foreigners with the same amount of respect and consideration as if they were Americans themselves. Its unfortunate that some people choose to blind themselves with such ideas. You have made yourself no better than those you accuse.
It's unfortunate that we live in a world where that stupid rule holds true about buying a bad product and telling 3x as many people than if it were good. Unfortunately, the bad stand out in society because the good are not recognized. By all means, damn those who deserve but do not wish damnation upon those who do not.
In a world that is supposed to be "coming together", why do you wish such things on those who, like it or not, will be your neighbors?

I think you are mistaken. This did take place over international waters.

To correct your analogy to reflect what happened... A peeping tom named Uncle Sam was sitting in a tree in a park looking down on a girl named China. China's little brother saw him and climbed the tree and broke his nose. The Sam lost his balance as a result of the crippling injury and had to jump out of the tree. The safest place to land was on China's picnic blanket so he did and apologized.

Now, what is the problem? Sam, according to our fantasy laws (for the sake of the analogy) had the right to be in the tree. He also had the right to be looking wherever he wanted to. If China didn't want to be seen, she should move her "viewable" items to another place or hide them. The problem occurred when Sam was forced onto China's blanket where he did not belong...

(incidentally, Sam thumped the little brother twice, rendering him deceased or at least MIA, before falling from the tree)

Now, does China deserve an apology? Yes she does. Sam landed on her territory without permission or even any kind of warning. Does she deserve an apology for the peeping? (according to our fantsy law) No.

Why would you entrust your passwords to anyone? If someone has that many important passwords, they should really come up with a better system than asking someone else to manage them. How irresponsible is that?
Save yourselves all the trouble. If you have that many passwords, buy a $10 lock box and write them all on paper and save them in there :)
