Well, I assumed that it could hold 300 Gbits on all planes, but of course, it could be more dense on one plane than another. Assuming that the material has the same density on the horizontal and vertical planes, all you have to do is raise the figure to the ^3 power. I dont really know enough about this though, so I may be wrong.
How did you get that figure? According to my calculations, 300/8^3 is 1406.25 GB per cubic inch, assuming the material is as dense vertically as it is horizontally... anyway...
for sale* ack, luckily I beat the grammer nazis.... ok time to sleep...
I think that should be the definition of a monopoly... 'if you can't easily buy a product from a competing company'
The othert day I say 3 versions of linux for sell at the local WalMart. This one fact makes me say, MS has no monopoly on anything. A monopoly is not 1 company have 90% of the market share. A monopoly is 1 company having 100% of the market share. IMHO.
That's not quite true. There have always been alternatives. MacOS has been around since the mid-80's. It actually appears that MacOS was the only choice, at least before Windows. Of course there was DOS, but the average user didn't start using PC's until around the time of win 3.1, IMHO. I don't think Microsoft has used strong-arm tactics against Linux or MacOS, maybe Netscape and Java, and Java sucks anyway, so I don't really care. They did undercut Netscape majorly, But I see nothing illegal about that at all. It may be a really mean thing to do, but hey, that kind of stuff happens all the time. I like opera anyway:). I also don't think MS was price-fixing, I think they were selling stuff for the maximum that their products could get on the free market, and just as a side note, capitalism is not about whatever benefits the buyer the most. It's about being able to sell something anyway you want, and at any price. There are limits to this of course, but I don't think MS crossed any of these lines. Their OSes still suck, but IE is good, and Office is marginally usable, if I have to use it for school or something. Gobe Productive kicks Office's ass though, I must say...
true, I meant more or less sarcasticly, but I suppose I could run a fuel cell in my cellar if it ever came down to it. I wouldn't want to run a generator in a cellar of course, heheheh...
.net is not limited to MS's apps at all. they just released the beta of the.net Visual Studio, so I guess other companies will be able to program for it though. I personally hate the idea of.NET because java was supposed to do this, and it didn't, and I doubt MS will be able to pull this off at all. I just see this whole thing as MS trying to beat piracy.
Who on the internet hasn't had offensive comments of all kinds directed at them? I haven't had any in quite a while, mainly because I don't do much chatting. People in general make fun of other people for many many reasons. I personally dont harrass people because of their color. Although I do hate lots of people, but I always base it on their personalities and how much they have in common with me. I can honestly say I haven't had any black friends that I really liked, I've had asian frieds though, and I would have black friends if there were any with the same interests and personality as me. Most of the black people in my school are the, "wazzup nigga, I just smoked some chronic ass dro this mornin'". I agree with Chris Rock though, there are 2 types of african-americans. Theres black people, and then theres niggers. See 'Niggers Vs. Black people' by chris rock if you want to hear it all... its quite funny...
Whens the last time the KKK lynched someone? Hell when was the last time someone WAS lynched? It just doesnt happen anymore, and hasn't happened in quite a while. I would say however, that the people in the NAACP are causing just as much trouble as the people in the KKK, by making up imaginary boundaries and hurdles the black people are always having to overcome. If black people in this country can't get an education, Its their own damn fault. As a matter of fact, my school recently had several black-only scholarships left over at the end of the year, because not enough people signed up for it. Hence everyone that signed up for it got a scholarship. I would imagine the other scholarships have a similar problem, but I don't have any info on that.
I have not seen a horrendous lack of support in my area. I am in high school right now, and everyone gets the same books, the same teachers, the same everything. Now, whether or not black people can afford to go to college as easily as whites is a seperate issue, but I know plenty of whites who have paid their way though college, or at least technical school, by working at white castle. My mom being one of them. My mom works at general electric as a technician. She makes quite a bit of money, definately enought to live on, and having an electrician for a mom is just damn cool anyways. I honestly see no reason why blacks should feel like they have a harder time getting an education than any other group of people, in fact, sometimes it can be easier. I'd like to see the protests start if someone decided to have an all white mall college scholarship program. But really, I don't think there is a huge social divide in our country anymore. I just see it as people bitching about stuff that happened a long time ago.
...Is do those 2.6 % black statistics include microsoft's foriegn offices. I would imagine that their offices in the UK and other places would have lower percentages of blacks, as many european countries either never had slaves, or never imported slaves to their homeland. I think a lot of today's problems are cause by everyone hyphenating their fucken nationalities. If you were born in africa and moved here, then maybe i see a reason to call you that, but if you were born here then you're and american and only an american, IMHO. I don't go around calling my self a european american, becuase people would laugh ay my ass. actually I would be a german-italian-british-irish-few-other-things-I-do nt-know-american.... Little bit too lenghty I think eh?
I seriously have doubts that the police force of america has the hawk-like visual precision to see what color the driver of the car in front of them is. The whole I got pulled of by a cop shit is completely garbage. Mind you I don't drive, but I know my parents get pulled over by plenty of cops, and guess what, every one of them was white. Hmm, i guess they hate white people. Pulling over some innocent white folks driving around minding their own business. If you're talking about unconstitutional searches and seizures, then I agree slightly somewhat more, more black people get searched illegaly simply because they do not know their rights. They say yes to everything the cop asks. He says, "Do you mind if I search the car?" many people arent educated enough to know that you are allowed to say no if you choose to. And if they search you anyway, any case would most likely get thrown out in most courts... I think this whole issue is insanely stupid. I don't think pure racism is a good thing, but it happens, and will happen for quite a while. As for discrimination, If you are qualified and able, then you shouldnt have a problem with finding a job.
5 billion is too much no matter what company they are suing. Microsoft isnt nearly as rich as many people think. If you ask most people how much bill gates is worth, they'll say a couple hundred billion or some outlandish figure. Many people think that just because microsoft makes a couple hundred billion of revenue a year that they can afford to give out huge sums of money like this. Microsoft spends quite a large chunk of money annually, So they don't have hudreds of billions just laying around doing nothing. As for the lawsuit I think it's just complete bullshit. If you get discriminated against, work for a different company. Companies, especially in fast-paced fields like technology, can't afford to let qualified people go. If you can't get a job nowadays, you either arent qualified, or youre not looking hard enough.
Thank god for the chinese and russians, or I would have no tubes for my guitar amp. No solid state amps for me thank you. At the moment I have russian sovtek EL34s in my marshall...
ps: Time to put my cpu in my cellar?? It has a good 1 1/2 feet of concrete all around? does concrete stop EMF well? The combo of my inwin Q500 invincicase and 1 1/2 feet of concrete should do the job i guess...
Well, many of the flash-based and hd-based players have flashable BIOSes. The Rios for one, and I think the nomads.. I know there's quite a few that support firmware updates
hell, I've never gotten a virus in my ~8 years of using windows either... I did get a deltree once, but that was on purpose. I never use antiviral software either, as it is a useless battle, to try to check for every known virus out there. But, I digress, as for my opinion on windows: 95/98 suck ass, and should be burned alive. NT/2000 is an ok system in and of itself, but it's a victim of its own success IMHO. Theres simply too many win 2000 boxes that all have the same security holes. and more people know how to take advantage of those holes than other OSes. I don't think its even the fact the windows has more holes than other oses neccesarily, there's just more boxes out there, and more people trying to find the holes. I personally think that the various *nixes are the most secure network OSes, because they are strongly multiuser, which can have its downsides though, when it comes to usability. But about the whole national security bullshit, why would anyone put important secrets on a computer connected to the internet? No matter how strong your firewall is, it's a stupid idea.
I have a nice 14 GB collection, and I know i could fill up 20 GB. hell I could fill up 100 GB... those things look really cool by the way... i wonder if I have 350$ in the couch cushions.... lol
well, of course it is possible. I just bought a nice cheap 99$ mp3/cd player though, to keep me busy until I can save up for a nice big HD based player... just temporary tho... I don't know of any players that do this. You could hack a firmware update if you really wanted to do this, of course. I dunno if it would be worth the hassle though...
That must mean that the pronunciation guide in many of the tolkien reprints are a good thing(TM). The guides in the silmarillion are quite helpful... not that great of a book on its own... more of a big reference manual to LotR
It is divided, into 3 movies... one being released on christmas each year for the next 3 years.... yay, now i know where im spending the next 3 dec. 25's ahhh screw the family...
stop exagerrating(sp?)... The P4 is not that huge of a mess up, and as for the 64-bit designs, the sledgehammer is just a wannabe 64-bit cpu, and the Itanium is designed for high class servers, and will likely be a few thousand $. I too want a nice 64 bit machine, I may settle for a sledgehammer... but we'll see.
yeah, I would say so too, especially considering the P4 isnt THAT bad of a chip. It may not have the FPU muscle of the tbird, but if a program is optimized correctly for SSE2, then it's actually a quite powerful chip. I think intel's biggest mistake recently was adopting rambus, which is what caused a lot of the mess with various chipsets for the CuMine. I wouldn't say that the P4 is the best chip ever, because it has it'd problems, but it's an ok design, and by Q2 2001, we should see some nice ~2 Ghz chips rolling out, while AMD is stuck ~1.5 most likely. I don't think the P4's are worth the money at the moment, but they should be an ok buy around august 2001. I for one, am going to buy a dual tbird 1.2 ghz asap....
... is, what do they mean by 'degraded performance'. Does it mean I lose a few fps in quake, or do I lose the ability to run any graphics app at any real speed. Yeah, for a class at school, I made a shell for IE, looked pretty damn cool, I got a B...:) It's actually quite easy to write a browser using the IE dlls, I used to use my custom browser all the time, before I got Opera, and I still you my little tiny custom browser on occasion, for nostalgia..... hehehehe....
