Even without the Caffeine, I probably have the circulatory system of someone in their late twenties(I'm 17). I have an amazingly high calorie diet(well over 3,000 cals. a day average, sometimes going over 4,000). Most of these are carbohydrates, as I am a severe sugar addict.

The odd thing is, I'm almost 20 lbs. under weight, although my cholesterol is much too high for my age. 180+ last time i got it checked IIRC. That's what I get for eating double whoppers and pizza almost all the time though, i guess..

I do think that NASA should remain government supported until it can be spun off and made self sufficient, like the post office, and they should recieve funding after that, for research and other things.

The only things the government should do are the things that private industry can't do better, which isn't very much.

I'm really glad I don't have to deal with that kind of stuff at my school. I am in an Electronic Engineering and telecommunications class right now. We get to do some interesting stuff most of the time. Although the teacher will make us work on circuit diagrams just to piss us off if we are bad in class. That is an effective punishment, making you calculate every resistance/voltage/current in a complex circuit..

Plus we get plenty of time to do whatever we want, if it is somewhat related to the class, and we don't have anything more important. I am a second year student in the class, so I get to take it for a whole half day, and we're basicly in charge of keeping the other computer labs running and all the teacher's PCs set up right. When we don't have something more important to do we get to experiment with whatever we want. Lately, we've been through a round of Mandrake Linux installs. Last week was BeOS(RIP).

It does seem like it would be a lot cheaper to have students do all the basic software installations and setups, instead of having to pay someone to do it...

  8. Re:How does this affect ALPHA? on HP Buys Compaq · · Score: 1

I know that compaq makes bad consumer PCs, and HPs seem (from my somewhat limited experience with them) to be merely mediocre, yet they have a large chunk of the market, while better PC makers (IMHO) like NEC, get only niche markets. Dell seems to be the only good and popular consumer PC.

I've always been a fan of NEC, though so maybe I'm a little impartial, but they seem to be one of the few innovative consumer PC makers. They have good support as well.

As for the merger, I don't see how merging two poorly-performing companies will help either of them. I want to see how their stock prices react tomorrow. This is definately a quite hefty purchase though.

PS: I bet dell is pissed that they can't say 'america's favorite PC' anymore... hehehe...
I wonder who they'll buy to catch up. Anyone want to place bets on it?

I really don't see what is so special about other countries having more cell phones per capita than the US. I (along with many other), consider them annoying most of the time. Besides, in many of the countries you are talking about, a cell phone is cheaper than a land line, which isn't the case in the US yet. Some of the stuff you mentions is cool, but not everyone needs a cell phone. I barely use phones at all anymore, as a matter of fact.

I don't have any clue what causes people to think that these new technoliges are necessities. As of now they are nothing more than neat technologies right now. I don't see 3G being viable for sometime, so I really see no reason for us to be the first. Japan is almost always first with wireless technologies, because it is so popular there. I doubt very seriously many people in the US aside from some geeks would trade in their PCS phone for a more expensive 3G phone anytime soon, nor do I think they should. I don't think 3G will be popular here until we get real wireless webpads and PDAs. By then, im sure the FCC will figure out what they want to do about it...
