I wish ICQ would do the same thing, I usually just leave it running, and about every 15-30 minutes you get a message asking you to llok at someones PornPics, I hate it.
maybe AOL suing will scare off the ICQ people.
How hard is it exactly to upgrade your Kernel? (I use redhat6.2)
I have never done it, but I have been told that if you do it, alot of programs stop working, and you are better of just to get a fresh distro with it already in it, is this true?
So does this mean Mandrake uses Apt and RPM?
becasue that would just kick A$$!!!!
I tried 7.2, but my soundcard couldn't seem to be installed right, but I want to try a newer version and see if the problem cleared up, as it we probably something simple. Becasue I'm no Linux Guru (I still haven't figured out exactly what cat does and similar other commands, I'm just lost.)
I just use it becasue its "Cool" and I enjoy tinkering with stuff, but don't have the most up to date computer equipment.
That would be funny as hell.
Hack it, then take it back to say... Kaybee toys.
Imagine the Chaos that insues,
"Hey Baby, give it to me."
"I want you, NOW"
Actually, I tried that scheme at one time,
basically, you took the same note they gave you, sent them 1 buck, went down to the local copy shop, got a thousand copies and envelopes, and send them out, and hopefully, get a dollar from each person,
but you have your cost of the copies, envelopes, and stamps (not to mention time).
So, you usually come out broke.
Castle Wolfenstein wasn't on there.
That was my first FPS, I'm also supprised Another World wasn't on thier (come on, you remember it, the game where the guy gets teleported to another planet, and the first level is super hard cause you got to run from this lion thing that chases you.)
I still play that periodically, its a pretty awsome game, and the graphics aren't too bad on a p2 400 either. I tried to play it on my 386 laptop, but it sucks on that.
BTW, does anyone know of a Java2 compiler (preferably free), which will work on a 386 sx, and be small enough I could transfer it over on Floppys?
I want it because I got a book on coding in Java for christmas, but want to be able to work elseweres besides my desk.
Do you think anyone actually watches that?
At my School half the teachers turn it off, and the other half just let us talk and ignore it.
The news is laughable (they made a 3 day program on the military, and all their news is atleast a week old).
I would go with AMD ThunderBirds, as they have a better cache system and can do math such as for the Gimp faster.
Or I would go with Alphas if you had the money, but I have no experience with them.
If this thing needs no fan to run at normal speed,
just think what the OverClockers will do to it;-)
I mean, I bet you could jack on up there with the.15 micron design.
BTW, I read something in a PopSci about that they are going to start using InfraRed instead of Visible wavelengths of light t create the paths in the chips in order to make them alot smaller,
does anyone know of any company doing this of yet?
Or of any company with plans of doing it?
How do your teachers accept you in school?
I'm fifteen as well, am a Sophmore in Highschool, us Redhat, and when ever my teachers have a problem with their computer, they don't go to the senior tech guy (who couldn't spell Linux moreless know what the hell it is) they come to me.
Do your teachers do the same, or are they afraid of you (such as math or science teachers) and think you are going to break into the schools computers and change their salaries (I used that as a threat once and the biology teacher bought it;-)
Anone know where I can get a extremly cheap laptop,
I mean I don't care even if its a 486, I just want something I can carry around. I'm looking in the range of around a 100$, does anyone know where I can get one?
I just want enough to Run Linux and play solataire on road trips.
It was a robot that was meant to craw down pipes or something, but it could lose up to half of itself and still work, and it was like 20 different snakelike sections, and each section had a certain function. So whenever it needed a certain function, it would rearrange itself so that that function was at the top of itself.
I have an old IBM ps2 that has a case you cold drive a tank over. I believe it is a model 80, it has a nice big carying handle, and weighs about 50 pounds.
ANyway, does anyone out there think it would be possible to put a ATX mobo inside of it?
I know I would have to put in the ATX power supply, but what else would I have to do?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Sorry dude, But you can;t do that
If you read VMwares Readme it says you can not run the same OS in the VM as the one the VM is running on.
And anyways, it would be insane to run VMware, because it would run so slow (I had windows running under it and took twice as long as normal just to boot up.)
I have tried to install several Glide games under Redhat 7 with X4.0 but they never worked,
is there a way around this?
Do I have to have different glide libraries or something?
My School don't teach crap!
The closest slase we have to any of that is Keyboarding (not kidding).
I go to a small country school, that only has about maybe 1500 students in the Highschool.
I'd love to learn JAVA, so I am getting a book about it for Christmas.
I kind of know a child prodigy.
He's a sophmore in highschool and is only 14, (well actually he's only about 6 months younger than me) he skipped 8th grade, and is skipping his senior year. The principle is mad at all his teachers because they can't keep him occupied, and slow down with the rest of the class too.
He gets straight A's all the time, but never has homework.
For my age, (15) I'm perty damn smart. I'm the second youngest in my grade (the other dude is the first) I pass 4 out of 5 classes with A's, and am getting a beggining Java book for christmas.
My suggestion is don't let him breeze by doing all mental work, make him do physical labor as well.
I'm damn smart, but on weekends I still work with my dad (we own a treemoving company www.instanttrees.com) and do alot of physical labor. I bet hardly any computer geek out there had had to horse around 500 pound tires to change truck tires after school.
I've always had problems understanding why learning comes so hard to some people. The little miss stuck up brat in my class gets straight A's, but complains about "How I had to take 3 hours to get the rough draft done for this report", when I had it done in 15 minutes. Or why people sometimes don't do their work, as when they come into Math Class with out homework, its always been an automatic thing for me to come home and do my homework.
BTW, could someone give me a link to download the Matrix in.mpeg?
I searched all afternoon and can't fnd anything but broken links and pop up windows.
Thanks
I have kind of a Stupid question,
in other countries, when people are using a programming language, do thay have to pragram in English? or are their other compilers for other languages?
Just curious
I had tried corel Linux (actually, I got 1.0 for christmas last year) And hated it.
Basically they tried to make it as much like windows as possible, and it just made it suck, because it was to simplified.
I used Windows straight up until about 2 years ago, and now use Linux for internet and typing, and some games, and use windows only for games that don't have linux releases, so its not like I hate windows terribly, but I use Linux because it's "cool" and not windows (I love Gnome), so it was bad to see a distro look so much like windows.
Anywho, I'm sure it won't kill corel to much.
I wish ICQ would do the same thing, I usually just leave it running, and about every 15-30 minutes you get a message asking you to llok at someones PornPics, I hate it.

I think my local meijers (a large grocery store)
lets you bring in a flash card and they will print out disant pics.
WEll then...PORK
