hehehe, yeah just try submitting a story to them, almost everything I've submitted in the last few months has been rejected and then posted a few days later. it seem they may need a moderation system internally;-)
Havn't you figured out by now that Microsoft doesn't have ideas of their own?
They bought DOS, bough Office, bought Mosaic (now IE) stole ideas from apple, stolle ideas from IBM, they have copied and stolen ideas from anyone and everyone, there arn't free thinkers over there.
You may have just given them ideas on how to compete with Linux, up until now they prolly had no clue what to do!!!
Thanks Alot!!!;-)
I really enjoy the thought of having Linux running on power macs. I don't have a mac, but I think that just having it there is enough. Linux crews need only look at the Mac developers code to figure out how to get good USB/Firewire support into the kernel. Good x86 developement directly related to Apple, who woulda thunk it?
MKLinuX is a joke. How in the world can you expect to use Linux and the Mach Kernel? Uhm, correct if I'm wrong (please) but since Linux is the actual kernel, shouldn't that project be called GNU/Mach? I don't mind the idea of GNU running on Mach it just seems a little strange that it can still be called Linux.
Curious how vaporware the 2.4 kernel is, there actually is a product out and you can get it, also curious how vapowarish MacOS X is, you can order the public beta from Apple's website, at least you can actually see and use the product...hmmm zdnet appears to have some new employees this year
I would love to see BeOS gpl'd
I have used it before and love it, the only problem is that Be has a relativley small team of developers and they don't have enough driver support for the things on my existing computer, I would have to get another one to run it right.
I don't really see that it would compete with Linux in all that big of a way.
I remember an interveiw with Linus on a radio station here in seattle (99.9 kisw for those of you reading from here) where he said that he had created it because nothing else really suited the way he wanted to use a computer and he wasn't really trying to compete with windows he just wanted their to be more choices the same way that "Mac" is a choice.
Is this just a "what if?" question or has something been hinted at from Be?
Here in Washington (AC not DC) we have 10 digit dialing when calling someone that is local but not long distance, a lot of people were confused at first, because no one bothered to know the persons area before the switch (there was no need to).
Now in New York City, this is a different story they have 11 digit dialing there, the only way to possibly know if you are making a toll call is to actually make a phone call to the operator and ask them.
I propose that if they do switch to 11 digits in the future, call the operator and ask them before you make _any_ call, even if you already know it's local. Eventually the phone companies would have to cave in and find a different way.
ok not worth counting anyone that is still running old software.
so we won't count anyone running red hat 5.2 or 6.0, no mandrake if it's under 7.0 same with suse 6.4 as it is outta date now!
slackware 3.2? that's right out. anyone running a kernel that is under 2.4 is also out as well.
Come on! I'm not really all that biased I like Linux. I like most OS's that aren't windows. But at least get the numbers right and stop swaying them, it seems that Linux users are very Democratic in that if you complain long enough you will eventually get your way
Linux users are more and more seeming to have an "Amiga-like" attitude.
don't get me wrong I run drake but these numbers make no sense...
uh huh, and one hacker tries to get in and that ip is blocked, hence an entire city block is blocked that makes great sense. Why didn't anyone think of this before? We just get a bunch of volunteer CCIE's to set it all up and manage the block based network for all of the (l)users.
Or we can set it up like a neighborhood watch! YEAH! One person in your neighborhood is responsible for maintaing the NAT! _and_ there will be a rotating schedule, tonight is your night, tomorrow is my night, the next day is my mothers night, yeah sounds like a great plan...
The way I would like to see it done, is in sort of a columbia house way. Reffer 5 people and get 30 mp3's. Or something to that effect.
I won't use it anymore.
Amiga is dead, and until they release something more substantial than what they have been (like something cool maybe?) they will remain there. Linux would not be where it is if it
wasn't free
didn't have free developemnt tools ($100 is crazy, even apple has _some_ free stuff (not much but some))
It just seems that 1 or 2 times a year they release something that has potential to be cool, but then really isn't. If there is enough demand for the OS. Release it! I looked on amiga's website and could only find information specific to the "classic" amiga and the new SDK. If this is supposed to be some sort of portable application tool it's not specific enough.
It says it's minimum requirements are red hat linux? hmmmmm So what OS does this actually run on? It lists that the os can run on (embedded) windows, linux, and QNX and can run on powerpc hardware...but with what os there? certainly not mac os.
If they really want to "make a comeback" as they have talking about for years (even before they were fully dead) then open source the os! port it to x86! port it to whatever you want! but come on do something people!
if only i had mod rights!!
LOL

not really, Linus just created the linux kernel the part you are refferring is was "stolen by GNU"

Public Beta is out, full version isn't due for a couple more months. We should hear something in the next couple weeks concerning it's official date.

This kind of thing happens all the time.
I remember a few years back a confiscated (?spelling?) korean submarine had parts from a Playstation.
Thank you for clearing that up Phil...
I would love to see BeOS gpl'd

Why don't you just install it? the packages are there...
you have preferences, use them hide all the stories you want hide all the artivles you want...sheesh

hmmmm interesting story line...
maybe you should go take a nap?

ah well looks like it back to the irc
this internet thing is really starting to suck
uhm...do you know how the electoral college works?
what elections? there's elections?
All anyone talks about is it's potential comeback

no, it it offered with "one [1] of nine others"
