In the larger company, most of our time was spent in mettings are fighting with marketing/sales
I have only worked for small (50 empl) companies and I STILL have ended up spending a ridiculous amount of time fighting with marketing/sales. I honestly believe the only way to avoid this is to not have marketing/sales types in the organization.
yeah but... it's fairly common for innocent people to plead guilty to lesser charges if they and their lawyers are convinced that they're likely to be convicted of something significantly more serious if it goes to trial. (One was a drinking buddy of mine.)
I'm not saying that this is the case here (in fact, it doesn't look like it at all) but it does happen, and I think it's one of the larger flaws in our justice system.

All Rush songs sound the same.
Well, all Rush songs from 1994 to 2002 sound the same anyway. The stuff they did before that tended to be fairly unique from song to song and album to album. Or maybe it was just the drugs I did then.
Jeez, you mean we've been listening to these stupid UFO stories for 50 years now, and it's all because all these crackpots didn't notice a slight breeze????
I'm going to GUESS that anybody who noticed it would assume that the "gravity field" was responsible for moving the air. It wasn't mentioned in this article, although it's mentioned plenty of other places, that the folks who buy into this stuff believe that anything that's inside the field (i.e. between the + and - plates) is subject to the "gravitic force"... and that would include air, which would be moved around as a result.
And NOT that I believe in this stuff, but it would have been interesting for the author to have pursued the B-2 angle. They may not be using this stuff for gravitic propulsion, but they're using it FOR SOMETHING, i.e. the B-2 has a + charge on the leading edge of the wing and a - charge on the trailing edge (or vice versa and who cares anyway). It's classified, so it must be interesting, no?
Maybe we should begin to treat Computer Science like Science, and really advance it methodically, rather than "My code is faster than your code..."
Ok, I'm talking out of my ass here. But I think that this has been a goal of computer academics since Day One, pretty much, hasn't it? With practically nothing to show for it? Engineering and science are all about metrics, and for software, those have been practically impossible to come by. I mean, Booch and all those guys certainly gave it a shot, and some people live by Rational, etc, but from what I can see (admittedly maybe not much) there just isn't much relevance for most of us out here, if for no other reason than it's just not possible due to time constraints (aside from huge projects by huge companies, and what percent of software "out there" does THAT represent anyway?) And do any of the current hot paradigms (i.e. extreme program) have any metrics built in at all?? No metrics == it ain't science, baby.
That's a novel way to look at it. Ignore one crime as long as other people are abiding by the law? Maybe you could suggest that GM makes it so their cars look for RFI chips in the OEM tires so that it won't start if you don't buy them from a dealer.
ebay sales aren't income unless you are making a profit. I've sold a LOT of stuff on ebay, mostly at a monetary loss.
You might want to consult a tax attorney on that one. If by "sold at a loss" you mean you sold it for less than you paid for it, doesn't that also apply to pretty much anything else sold used, such as used cars? Ask your local car dealer whether he can squeak out of paying sales (or even income) tax on those grounds.
What numbnuts modded THAT down??? That's freaking hilarious.

Lighten up. I can't shop at Walmart because I still have all of my teeth, but the cost savings alone (retail inventory every 6 months is expensive in a big store) will make the ROI appealking to managers everywhere.
I can feel the prices dropping now. I also can't wait until Walmart starts putting MY employers out of business, in addition tothe thousands of other small-scale employers that they've already nuked.
I was really hoping someone would challenge Hatch to allow them to audit his personal and office computers for infringements. I'd even let the BSA get involved if they had the guts.
Can you claim copyright on someone else's derivative work? My gut tells me, "no,"
I may be off-base here (likely) but I don't think this is about "copyright", per se, it's about distribution rights, which are covered under contract law, not copyright law.

First thing, let's kill all the Lawyers. (Henry IV or V?)
Henry VI, Part 2, act 4, sc. 2, l. 76-7
I believe, in context, he's referring to "language lawyers" but it's a great idea either way.

Woops, I don't mean slashcode type moderation, I mean listserve type moderation.
I'd like to see a tech-savvy representative adopt some form of Slashcode-based constituent feedback system.
It would have to be moderated. No politician could/would be able to tolerate the trolls.
I wonder, fellow Slashdotters, what you think the most expressive language is
Algol
I'm not disagreeing with your point, but the acceptable (if not great) solution is to choose your variable names more wisely.
Inclinded. I made up a new word. w00t.
I'll take one. How much?
(Anybody inclinded to ridicule needs to take a listen. They're actually pretty good.)
What did you do on the album, just out of curiosity?

When I didn't like the cheapie soundcard Dell gave me, I took it out to CompUSA and got the card replaced

Looks like they answer a lot of Linux questions in the FAQ.
Yeah, but they don't answer any questions relevant to dropping Linux support, at least that I saw.
I wonder which Wal mega-company managed Mart to ram THIS one up the asses of American workers?

They are exactly like bar code tags, except they are scanned by electromagnetic sensors, rather than lasers
Brilliant! Consise! Wow.
And a newspaper is EXACTLY like radio, except you recieve it with your eyes, instead of with a tunable RC network with optional FM demodulation.

It was written by Gordon Letwin, but he wrote it first for MS Lan Manager, then later ported it to OS/2.
