Ummmm it's volountary dude. If you "find" a book crossings book, you're under no obligation whatsoever to register that fact, or to re-release it. Nobody is MAKING you do anything you don't want to. Sheeeeeesh.
As to books of dubious nature, have yiu actually been to the bookcrossings site and seen the titles that are being released and found? many great works of literature.
This is a FUN thing to do, no sense of Big Brother at all.
People who participate enjoy it, and a lot of them that have found books, read something they would never have read before, and have enjoyed doing so.
Not in the UK it aint mate. The average is 37.5 A lot of "manual labour" types work 40, financial industry seems to 35 and a lot of other people work 37.5.
There are some professions (catering and hospitals for example) that do work long hours but on the whole most UK citizens work far less than 60. In fact, we have a law that restricts how many hours we can work (something like an average of 45 per week averaged over a 12 week period, but that's from memory and may be wrong)
There was a time when we didn't have computers. We managed just fine.
There was a time when we didn't have electricity. We managed just fine.
There's a term for people who think like that - Luddites.
The point is that technology improves the quality of life. Sure I could do without my mobile phone, just as I could manage without a car, or a computer or a music system. I have one because it's CONVENIENT. People can speak to me and I to them without having to ring several numbers to try find me or leave a message on an answering machine that I may or may not reply to.
Here in the UK, the market for ringtones and cute cases is largely the teenagers. They spend huge amounts of money on personalization, and also on text messaging. The mobile phone operators make billions out of texting.
They can then use the money they make to improve the services they offer. I just signed up last week for a service where my bank texts me whenever a transaction over a certain amount is made. I don't NEED that service, but I do find it USEFUL (if only so I can see when my wife is taking money out of my account!!!)
Didya actually READ the article? Didn't think so. The crucible is specifically designed to absorb the energy of the microwave, so no short circuiting/sparking.
If you saw the pictures, you will see that all the heat is transferred into the crucible. The guy pulls the cruciblele/mold assembly out of the oven with bare hands. No part of the actual oven gets hot.
You clearly know NOTHING about football! Dya think that with about 150 years of history in the game that maybe, just maybe, the world class teams just might have a little clue about how best to play the game???
Your suggestion of him coming out a bit further is illgeal according to the FA rules.
I'm in the UK and my Nokia 3330 on the Orange network will allow 112 and 999, without the sim but it's not obvious. On swithcing on, it says "insert sim" but if you type in 112 (or 999) as you hit the last digit, the display changes to "call"
LOT offered his daughters, nothing was said about him being commanded by God to do so...
1 AND there came atwo bangels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and awash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a afeast, and did bake bunleavened bread, and they did eat.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may aknow them.
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 aBehold now, I have two bdaughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore ccame they under the shadow of my roof.
That's exactly how Sky suckered a lot of people into satelite TV in the mid 90's. Buy this system, and you get aaaaaaall these channels for free. Just about everything except sports and movies. A couple of years later, they packaged them all into groups and you had to start forking over extra £££s to get the channels you'd been used to. B*stards.
Apparantly not, I understand that it IS possible using very very expensive equipment and a clean room and very skilled technicians to still pull data off a hard drive even after a low level format. That could of course have been FUD but I recent;y read it somewhere, just can't remember where. I think there was a recent slashdot ramble about it.
The article states that the new technology will only use one magnetic grain per bit as opposed to the hundreds currently used.
I wonder if this means that once a cluster is overwritten, there is no ghosting effect that could allow the previous data to be retrieved. Once the data's gone, it's gone. A single magnetic grain can only be set one way!
So NSA or whoever won't be able to retrieve those docs you wiped just before they busted into your home/office....
In the light of this, this tech. it is probably not in the security industry's best interest!
So as well as getting space for all your music and porn, you don't have to worry about the data persisting on your drive when you want to remove it... all in all a good thing!

"Ever get bothered by a strange drunk?" Nope
"She ever run into a friendly stranger who happens to post pictures to upskirt.com?" She wears trousers (pants to our US friends)
" You say you left the house at 8? " Yeah, so?
"Got any cute little girls in your family? Wonder what time her soccer practice ends?"
Yes and she doesn't do any extracuricular activities.
I see what you're trying to say, but me (and my wife) are simply not that paranoid! I high;ly doubt that anyone would be so mad at me or my family, that would then have access to say, bank records or public video cameras, or emails - even if they do, how the hell is that going to help them? As I said before, they'd have a hard time finding out anything "interesting" about me and my family as we lead such perfectly ordinary lives.
Yes I am human, I lead what might be considered by many to be a trivial and boring life. Of course I have made mistakes, and violated minor laws, such as speeding, but have paid the penalty when I got caught( a small fine) and that didn't bother me in the slightest. I don't think I've ever done anything that would cause me "public humiliation" and at least here in the UK, I would hope (perhaps wrongly) that our CPS (Criminal Prosecution Service) would toss out on the spot any case brought against me because I angered a friend of a friend of a bad cop. They're far too busy dealing with real criminals.
There is a place for secrecy (bank acount numbers and stuff like that) but it irritates me when people go on about having movements tracked by gps phones/atm withdrawels/loyalty cards/public cameras and how it is such a violation of privacy that someone knows this stuff. I don't give a toss that someone knows I took 20 quid out of an ATM this morning, or that at 08:00 I left my house to go catch the train. If people are that curious about my life, then all I can say is that they lead even sadder lives than I do!!!
The fact that surveilance such as that mentioned above can help catch real crims is more important to me than not having surveilance because people feel it violates their privacy. I'm not even really that bothered about people reading my emails, there's nothing important or exciting in them!

what? are you saying iron has no melting point???
Go RTFA - it clearly states he can't get it hot enough to melt STEEL yet.
so if the metal doesn't heat up, ummmm.... how does it melt???

It doesn't work with 911 though.
I pasted that verbatum from a site that has superscript letters indicating footnots, I appologize for the a's and b's in front of some of the words.
