  1. Great...GPRS rules! on New Nokia Phone · · Score: 1

I've been using GPRS (2.5 G) with my Motorola Timeport 260 for almost a year now here in Germany. I must say that it has really developed itself to something great. My WAP goes faster, I only pay for what I send/receive, and I can use IRDA to link with my Palm to check e-mail wirelessly, surf the net (using Palm web browsers...to an extent), and of course message.

Now this new Nokia really makes this whole process much easier, because using IRDA becomes a pain especially when your on the go and it is hard to keep Palm and phone pointing at each other.

  2. Re:Harry not cool in 7th grade... on Review: Harry Potter · · Score: 1

Well I'm a senior in an American high school here in Germany. Although Harry Potter isn't popular at all in high school, I have friends (9, 10, 11, 12 grade) that I hang out with that plan to watch the Harry Potter movie. These are mostly girls although a bunch of them are guys too.

Two of my friends are so anxious to see it, that they are traveling to London over the Thanksgiving weekend to watch it but of course do a little sightseeing too.

  3. Re:This is a great thing for Nintendo to do on Gamecube Hits US Early · · Score: 1

I'm not anti microsoft at all...I love my Windows and have been using it since version 3.1...anyway, the reason I applaud Nintendo's decision is because I prefer Nintendo. I have a SuperNES, Virtual Boy (it ruled, to bad it didn't do well), Game Boy Color, and I bought the Nintendo 64 the day it came out with both Mario 64 and Pilot Wings 64 (only two games for release).

Now I'll be honest here and say that I haven't turned on my Nintendo 64 in over six months or bought any new games for over two years, but that's not because I don't like Nintendo anymore but rather because I've seem to have outgrown video games. Not only this, but school and other commitments have kept me fairly busy and in my free time I'll rather read, surf the net, relax, or hang out with friends.

I'll be the first to say that I used to play video games constantly, but not anymore.

So next time you read a post and accuse someone of being anti-microsoft just because he prefers the GameCube over the X-Box...then it may be for another reason than you may think.

  4. This is a great thing for Nintendo to do on Gamecube Hits US Early · · Score: 0, Redundant

This way Nintendo is getting a jump on Microsoft's X-Box which is getting released on Thursday. Orginally the GameCube was supposed to be released on Sunday, but this way they should hopefully get a lead on the X-Box.

  6. Harry Potters Books on Star Wars: AOTC Trailer on Monster Inc · · Score: 1

I've just finished reading the first Harry Potter book on Saturday and since have read about one fourth of the second book in the series.

I must say that although it seems like a children book (I told myself a while back that I would never read them), they are quite entertaining and are a fun read.

If the movie is any much near the book, then it will probably be one good movie.

BTW, I'm a 18 year old male...so I definately don't fall into the Harry Potter stereotype.

  7. MP3 + 193 KBps on What Sounds Better, MP3 or Ogg? · · Score: 1

I usually rip all my CDs using the MP3 format at 192 KBps. This is usually a really good sounding format. I tend to listen to most of my MP3s on my computer using nice-sounding JBL Multimedia 2000 speakers.

For music portability, I use a Sony MZ-R90 Mini Disc player which I hook up through a analog cord to my computer's sound out (headphone) port and the sound quality tends to be fairly good even though it's not digital.

I haven't tried Ogg, so I have no clue if that sounds any better.

  8. Same in the former East Germany on Verizon - No DSL Over Hybrid Copper/Fiber Lines? · · Score: 1

In the former East Germany there is the same problem. The Deutsche Telekom is unable to provide DSL there because most of the telephone lines are fiber. The fiber was installed in the early 1990's when the German government pumped millions of DMs into East Germany for upgrades.

  13. Sticker on the Atari Information on Atari 800XL Used For Heart Diagnostics · · Score: 2

On the "Atari in Hospital" page there is a sticker that is on the Atari that says "US Government Property". The author of the webpage asks what the sticker may mean, here is what it does:

The sticker is a little identification mark that is put on all Department of Defense Dependents School (DODDS) properties including computers.

DODDSs school are located all over the world, including Germany which isn't quite that far from the Czech Republic. Knowing quite a bit about these schools, I know that they just recently (about 2 or 3 years) ago moved to this ID type, so if this computer has this sticker, then the Atari really is from an American school somewhere in Europe.

I really don't know how Czech people would receive this Atari (especially since the sticker would be removed if the computer would be donated or sold through government auction/sale)

If you have any more questions, be sure to ask.
